So yesterday I went to the local feed store (which has cheaper prices than dog food stores). I bought some Wellness puppy canned food and some Wellness large breed puppy dry food. I tried adding the wet food , 1 Tbsp, to the First mate with a little warm water and she wolfed it down. Same this morning. So I am relieved that she is eating and she also slept over 5 hours last night so it may have been that she was hungry .Anyway I'm feeling better because I was worried.
Hope the vet appt goes well, (no crooked teeth etc)

Here is another site that discusses dog foods and rates them. It also goes through all of the steps of what to look for.

Well, I'm happy to report, 1. I got some sleep last night, 2. Lucy's first night was a dream... somebody wake me...lol. No fussing in the crate. DH got up and took her out at 3am, I took her out at 7am and both times she did her business, with going right back to sleep after the first outing. She ate a hearty breakfast and drank a lot... had 2 poops (which I have to admit I'm proud of :-)), and played and napped away the day. I've send you both a video... hope you get it. Lucy is just so darned cute the way she plays. Also today... (BIG 1sts today), Lucy got to play in the SNOW. My camcorder was hooked up to the computer at the time though, and my camera's battery was charging... so no pictures :( .. and where the heck is my phone??? Anyway, its looking like the snow might be around for a couple days so there will most likely be another opportunity for pics. Lucy LOVED the snow! She ran and skidded on our large patio and licked the snow and peed in it... she was just having a grand ole time!

Jeanne, I called my vet and after them telling me they had no appts. available in the next few days I said I'd have to go elsewhere... then they said they'd check with my vet and sure enough, they were able to squeeze me in for tomorrow. Lucky me... My vet is walking distance away (although I'll drive her there and back this time). I adore my vet. He's been there for my cat and birds for the past 11 yrs and I trust him completely.

That's about all for now. Jeanne, I wouldn't change Tura's food either. She's seems just too young to be making changes, and nobody wants grains added to their dog food. Vets seem to push whatever brand they're getting kickbacks from, which aren't the high quality brands like First Mate and others. If I HAD to make a change I'd look into Innova Puppy or Taste of the Wild.

Hubby just got home so gotta run!

I tried the Chicken Soup For Puppies Dog food, but Hudson had loose stools on it. I then put him on California Nautral Lamb and Rice for Puppies. He did very well on that. He is now eating Taste of the Wild- Buffalo or Salmon and has also done very well on that (grain free). I don't recall him refusing to eat at all when he was a puppy, but I do remember that his appetitie didn't seem to be the greatest when he first came. I would mix in small amount of canned Wellness puppy food with his dry kibble and water and that seemed to help and he seemed to like that. I don't think he was all that thrilled with the First Mate, and he liked the Chicken Soup formula but it must not have agreeed with him. I would definitely stay away from formulas with corn or lots of grains. There is a website called Dog Food Analysis.com where you can read up on dog foods. Most of the foods that vets recommend would get a low score according to that site (Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, etc)

Lucy looks adorable and very much like her sister. Tura was up every 1-2 hours last night but does her business and I put her right back to sleep. She cries a little and it is hard to ignore her but she needs to learn to go back to sleep. I hope your night went OK Debb but either way it will get better for both of us eventually. Angie, the vet didn't think it was the teeth that are the problem as far as appetite goes and wanted me to switch foods, but her recommendation had corn and chicken byproducts (ugh) so I am going to stick with the First Mate and hope she gets hungry.
She too is very bonded with me and I have to run and bathe and do chores when she is sleeping or she whimpers. Nice to be loved but the separation anxiety could become an issue, I'm afraid. Sometimes I leave her in the crate for 5-10 minutes just to teach her I will come back and she is safe there. I think my Tura may end up looking like Hudson when she grows up, mostly cram with a touch of buff in there.

The bonding sounds just like Hudson. He is still like that. He is very bonded to the whole family, but especially to me. He follows me everywhere, and sometimes I feel bad, as sometimes I only stay there for a short time (cleaning, etc). He sleeps with us, but won't go to bed until I do. He stays with my mom when I work, and one day I was later than usual picking him up. My mom called me and said "You have got to get over here and see your dog." I guess he started looking out the window for me around my normal time, and kept pacing between the door and front window waiting for me to come. He also makes us feel guilty when we leave him home alone, because we take him everywhere we can (errands if they are short and the weather isn't too hot) and to all family functions at my mom's, so he is with us a lot. There is something about Doodles that really makes them more than just a dog. :)

Jeanne, I had no idea the 1st vet visit had to be within 3 days! Oh my, I hope I can get in this week with my vet, otherwise I may have to make it with another vet. I guess I'll drop that hint if they tell me sorry, because they won't want to lose my business. Sorry to hear about Tura's incisors. What can be done, if anything? Or is it just a wait and see thing for when her adult teeth come in? Lucy hasn't eaten a lot, but she has eaten some. I'm sure its just the change that's put Tura off her food. Give it a few more days. I'm on cloud 9, but I'm so exhausted after not having slept last night, and I'm not looking forward to tonight. Think I'll give my husband baby duty, at least for the first potty break.

Lucy is HOME! What a wonderful day! The 40 min. drive home was totally uneventful. Lucy curled up in my lap and fell asleep. When we got home we went for a pee in the designated area and it took a while, but she did just fine in the end. Then she came in and my grown daughter showed up to say hi. Lucy took to her just fine. She ran and played and you'd have thought she was here all her life. She fell asleep behind me as I sat on her cushy dog bed. She is VERY bonded to me. If I'm out of sight she wimpers. She doesn't think to look up to find me, she just looks around at her eye level. I have to get her attention to look up and then she comes running. She ate a little, drank a little and took a couple naps. When it came time for us humans to eat dinner Lucy layed at my feet. She knows how to run after a ball and retrieves it most of the time. Amazing for only 7 weeks old! She's been just about the most perfect puppy so far. She's laying quietly in my lap and just said hello to our 23 yr old cat. I have to say I'm in awe of her preciousness. I wonder how tonight's crate time will go, but as long as I'm near I think she'll do fine. Please go to my page for more pics, but here's one I took just before the layed her head to sleep.

If Tura is perky, it is probably the transition. What did the vet say about her not eating? The sleeping thing will get better. Hudson did well with a blanket covering his crate completely. Also, when she wakes up, be all business and no play or talk (other than "Go Potty" once outside, and praise once she does so.). Take her out, and put her right back.

Tura is 11 lbs. She has no temp and her heart and lungs sound good. Sandi had already given her her 2nd set of shots so she just had a fecal check today. Tura is not eating well at all, only one good meal since we got home. I don't know if she has an intestinal parasite or what. No diarrhea, she's perky, I just don't know. Maybe just the transition. Also, the vet said her bottom incisors (front long teeth ) are on the inside of her uppers and they should be on the outside when she bites. They are poking into the roof of her mouth.. Looks weird but probably not what is causing the appetite problems as she has been gaining wt all along. Her adult teeth may come in correctly, we'll see.
I scheduled her vet check early as the contract says to do it within 3 days.
Hope your day goes well with Lucy. Tura sleeps 3 hours tops at a time at night. FYI
