Hello all! I finally bit the bullet and stopped lurking and joined Doodlekisses! Brewster is from the Ryobi/Fozzy breeding, born October 2008. He was initially called Dodge. He is now the big boy I…Continue

Debb- Our choice was between Lucy (Tzatziki) and Delilah when we were picking puppies. We actually travelled to Portland with Samson to choose. I have photo's of our kids holding both puppies when they were 3 weeks old trying to decide. It was my then 8 year old daughter who eventually made the choice saying "I just love her already" with Delilah. Jeanne- Sandi didn't offer to pay for anything and I know it wasn't her fault, she didn't know any of the pups had Addisons until right after this last litter. She did say that her son's dog (Sputnik) was to be bred in the future, but now in light of Delilah's diagnosis, can't because she also was a Ryobi/Fonzi pup. The biggest expense is going to be her monthly injections ($100 each), the rest of her meds are very reasonable. She also will need twice a year blood draws to make sure her levels are good. On the bright side this really doesn't affect the quality of her life as long as she stays on her meds. She is still a loving, happy girl. I will just have to keep her out of stressful situations. This may be difficult as she is afraid of just about everything, unlike her big brother Samson who is so mellow and easy going.
Thank you Kristin for this info. I have Tura who is Delilah's littermate also. She had some genetic issues also related to her teeth and although Sandi said she would reimburse me some of my expenses she never did. I don't know if she will honor the contract and help with your expenses, just wanted you to know I didn't have any luck there. I am glad to know about the Addison's and will be on the lookout for problems. I am so glad you let us know about it and hope your pup does well on her meds,
Hi Kristin,
Welcome to our group. I'm glad you found us. We haven't been very active lately, but its always good to hear from fellow Labradoodledoo doodle owners.
Wow, that's real interesting about your Delilah. Lucy (Tzatziki), Delilah's sibling, hasn't shown any signs of Addison's, but it will certainly be on my radar from here on out. Is there a test for it in the absence of symptoms? Nevermind... I just did a quick google search and it appears to be one of those diagnoses that is found through a process of elimination. I'm so sorry to hear that Delilah will have to be on meds for the rest of her life, but its good to know its a manageable condition.
Lucy is the light of our lives. Everything, it seems, revolves around her. She's our 1st dog and we can't imagine life without her. She's such a joy.
I'm going to go check out your pics on your home page. I hope you have some of Delilah (love the name, btw!). Thanks for the heads up!
I just found this group. I have Samson (Benzi) and Delilah (Shabu Shabu) from Ryobi/Fonzi breeding. Samson was from the Oct 08 litter and Delilah from the Nov 09 litter. I just wanted you all to know that Delilah was just diagnosed with Addison's Disease. Samson has not shown any signs of it. From what the vet tells me, it is genetic and there is no way to tell which dog will get it but both parents have to be carriers. Delilah's symptoms were not eating or drinking, vomitting and just overall lethargic. I knew something was wrong when she didn't want to play ball. She is now on meds (for the rest of her life) and is doing great. I contacted Sandi- just to let her know and to see if any other pups from Ryobi/Fonzi had addison's. She said she did get word that one other pup from that pairing also has addison's. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
I am sure Sandi is overwhelmed with everything. Hudson is also the best dog I have ever owned and I am so thankful that I have him. My experience has been nothing but positive, but if I were in Jeanne's shoes I wouldn't be too happy about spending all of that money to fix a puppy's teeth. It sounds genetic to me, and I believe most if not all bite problems are. It also sounds like it was impacting the quality of her life if her teeth were going to be cutting her mouth all up. I totally respect your decision to give up pursuing the money- it is extremely kind and thoughtful of you, but I think busy or not, a business is a business and you should have at least received something back.
