And this is Kona at 9 months old after I trimmed him again (WHILE he was sleeping!).  I still like him to have a bit of shagginess, so he still doesn't look shaved, but he's definitely messy!

Jayme L, a few weeks after you last posted, I finally trimmed Kona by myself with a pair of cheap scissors.  I figure that since he is a goofly clown dog anyway, it didn't matter if I messed up a bit.  Here is a photo of him after trimming about 1.5 to 2 inches of the frizzy blonde tips off of him.  He looks much more red now!  Kona trimmed at 8 months.bmp

Think we still need to practice...

Oliver is at almost 16 lbs and definitely gets the "most rambunctious" award in his kindergarten class! Seems he has a sensitive stomach along with an never ending appetite for absolutely anything. Jayme, he is "Suki boy #11". We got him at 9 weeks and it was tough for a while! He was nipping at anything, even our kids! He has definitely mellowed out and we have learned how to work with him. We just have a hard time keeping him from eating socks and rocks!
We, too, were so nervous about grooming but knew we had to get it done. He got his first cut the end f April, I had been trimming around his face, etc. up unil then. It actually turned out fine but it was a bit stressful for him. Hope it'll be easier next time. Groomer says he doesn't have to come in as often as other doodles due to the kind of coat he has.
Will try to share pictures soon!

hahaha yeah that is def a fear of mine with going to a groomer as well. I hear they rarely respect your wishes and they always come out looking like a poodle. Well I think I will mimick and just trim a bit around his eyes. Henry's coat has been great. It's fairly curly but I use a lot of conditioner and give him a good scrub vs using shampoo and my vet is always commenting on how great his coat and skin is. He never has any matts. I plan on just trimming his coat myself with a scissors for the most part as am hoping to keep him shaggy as well. We'll see how it goes as he gets older. :)

He still has never had a full groom session.  I've trimmed around his eyes and took about an inch off of the top of his head and between the pads of his feet with a scissor, but everythingg else is "au naturale".  I'm not sure how much longer I'll wait to take off more.  If he doesn't let me trim an inch off myself, I'll have to start searching for a groomer who respects my wishes to never shave him, and to only trim the ends when/if it starts getting to scraggly.  I happen to love the long messy look and he hasn't started matting at all yet (he is 7.5 months old now).  The PetSmart by my house completely shaved his nose and between his eyes when I brought him in for a bath only. So I will NEVER take him back there.  They completely ignored my instructions to not cut any of his hair.  They later said they were doing me a favor to surprise me.  I suppose they thought that it was my dream to have a poodle or a schnauzer or something!

LOVE! So cute! I like the 'grooming style' as well, nice and shaggy with a bit off the top. It seems like the type of cut can really change their look a lot.

Jayme K.... My double doodle is half goldendoodle and half Australian Labradoodle.  They are also called North American Retrievers.  And yes...I'd have to agree that my double doodle is ridiculously cute.

Leslie

Will you post some more pics as well, so curious if they look similar! Also, which pup did you end up with? I still sort of remember their puppy photos. Please send updates on your pup. I'd love to hear about her/his personality. :)

I need to add more photos! Maybe I will do that now. haha Henry is getting so big, and yet is still such a little dude. haha Gwyndolyn, your double doodle is ridiculously cute. What is a double doodle anyways? And yes, Lincoln is cute and def looks like he has a little spunk. I like to say Henry has a 'zest for life'! And boy does he ever. When he meets other puppies, they seem to be a bit taken back by his energy. I'd love him to meet other doodles so will have try and find a meetup. :)
