Hi to owners of Willie and Betty's litter 12-0-08. Thought it would be fun to share how they are coming along at 6 months. Our Duffy is growing! He's now 19.6 pounds, but doesn't seem to be a voracious eater....more of a grazer (probably the luxury of being a single dog!) He's very alert, playful, trying to learn good behavior, and so darn sweet! Please post pictures and add some comments. Let's talk about grooming, training, etc. thanks! Nancy

How cute he looks like he is smiling....
Hi Nancy! I agree with Marianne. Duffy has a great smile! Neither Charlie or Fergus are litter mates of Duffy but I'll tell you they too are not voracious eaters. They must have variety, more than 3 or 4 days of the same thing and they will go without rather than eat! I've been told it's the Poodle in them. Have fun with Duffy! Dawn Ferguson
Hi Dawn! Hope Duffy can meet Charlie and Fergus when we come through this summer - sometime in July. Thanks for the "food insight". I think Duffy likes variety as well. He'll be happy for 2-3 days, then he wants a change. I did make some of the liver treats that someone had posted on the training site and he never seems to tire of those! I keep them in the freezer because they will go bad after a few days in the fridge, but I've cut them into tiny bites that are perfect for training. See you next month?
Nancy, thanks for starting this group.....I have been too busy to post lately, kids, sports, school and of course Corky have been keeping me busy....Corky weighed in at 17.1 lbs 3 weeks ago..

Corky is not a big eater either.....hmmmm....sometimes I worry that he is not getting enough, but he is growing, and goes through spurts where he eats alot....He is much easier lately with the exception of the mornings....He just wants to play and we are rushing around and he jumps all over my 8 yr old....Other than that he is prtty good.

I will post pics later......

Hi all.....Corky is now close to 7 months old....last Friday he weighed in at 18.6 lbs....He is so much fun....Loves to play with other dogs ( of all sizes)....We waited to introduce him to our next door neighbors dogs, just a brick wall to separate them....They are away this week and Corky has been crying at the wall for them....I hope that he grows out of that....I mentioned to my husband that Corky may need a little brother or sister to keep him busy....Husband not yet ready for another pup....Having a bit of a time getting him to walk lately....need to chase him to get the leash on him and sometimes have to drag him out the door...once we get going he is okay....Wish he were a bit more excited for his walks, but again, this may be a phase....

He has been professionally groomed once, next time (which should be very soon) he needs a full haircut....This makes me nervous because he is so darn cute right now...

Having camera issues, but will post pics as soon as my camera is repaired and I can upload.....
Great hearing about Corky....too bad we don't live closer, then "the boys" could play together. Duffy LOVES his play days with his Spanish Cocker friend, but, unfortunately, he's going north for the summer so Duffy's left with us! We weighed Duffy yesterday and he's just over 20 lbs. (has only gained about a half a lb. since last month's weigh in. Still not a big eater, but really active -loves to fetch, go for walks, etc. No problems getting him to go on his leash, but of course, he knows he can't go out unless he's on his leash so that may be how he's conditioned. He loves going for car or RV rides....will actually get into the car and wait patiently until we take him somewhere! I've been doing his grooming.....not an expert by any means (in fact I cut his nail too close to the quick yesterday and was kicking myself because I didn't have any powder handy....Duffy was so busy chewing on his treat, he didn't even notice he was bleeding!....what a patient puppy!) I brush then comb....no matting issues yet. I clean his ears, clip some hair around his feet, clip toe nails, and attempt to brush his teeth. Brushing his teeth is like me putting the brush or finger brush in his mouth, I try to find his teeth and he chews on the brush!! There must be a better way..... Taking a shower is one of his favorite things! He just walks in and waits his turn to get lathered up and conditioned, so he usually gets a bath every week. I've been using no tear shampoo and Buddy Wash conditioner....there's also a spray leave in conditioner I use if he's just gotten wet from the pool. Those products smell great and leave his coat very soft. So far the only hair I see coming off his body is in the brush after I've brushed him vigorously. We just got hard wood floors, so we'd know if he were shedding.....nada!!!! Still having some issues with him jumping up on people that come to the house....he doesn't jump on us, just our visitors. Have tried to curb this but he just gets so excited to see people.... maybe he'll grow out of it. One good thing.....we've had some pretty strong thunderstorms here lately and the noise doesn't seem to bother him at all....our other dog went ballistic. Duffy just looks up like he's saying, "hey, keep it down up there, stop dropping things!" Hope to get out of this Florida heat soon and head north...one reason I'm keeping his coat long, I think it gives him a layer of insulation from the heat. Have noticed all the short haired dogs are panting like crazy and wilting on their walks, but he seems fine. Well, that's enough blab for now...looking forward to seeing some photos!
Hi all;

I have not posted in quite awhile...Life has been busy with the kids, dog etc....Corky is almost one year old - I cannot believe it....he weighed in today at 19.7 lbs.....He is truly a love (most of the time)....He loves to play with other dogs, kids, adults etc. He is going through a new chewing phase and has gotton himself into some trouble....I think it is an attention, boredom thing, so we will make sure to get more exercise and give more attention to him....

I am hoping to post pics - but cannot seem to get my camera to upload.....

Hi Deidre
Great hearing about Corky! Duffy is now about 24 lbs. and full of LIFE! Generally he's a real dear, but sometimes he has is moments of mischief....usually in the early morning while we're still in bed and he's cruising the house or bedroom for something to get a hold of to chew! We've never had a dog who LOVES to chew so much! We did discover antlers while we were in Maine and they seem to last a long time and really satisfies his chewing need. I highly recommend them! He can now go through a Bully Stick in less than 1 hour!!! He has graduated to staying in the kitchen/hallway while we're away for our golf games, etc. and he's never had any problems. I plan on taking him to an obedience class after Christmas. I've been trying to train him on my own - with lots of guidance from different books, etc., but I'd like to get him in a group situation. Can't wait to see some photos....I'll try to post some as well. We had a ball with him at the beach this year in Prince Edward Island...he really loved his romps!
