Hi, I technically should not have joined this group, but Maci and I live in NJ and will be traveling to Florida for the week of Thanksgiving and plan on spending Friday, November 20 in Savannah and was wondering if anyone could recommend some "places not to miss" or would be interested in meeting us for lunch/dinner. Thanks!

Welcome Kate. There is no one excluded from the Low Country. The door is open to everyone. It's that Southern Hospitality. Savannah has so many things to do. We routinely just walk the streets in the downtown area and admire the old homes and the many park squares. The city is eye candy to anyone expecting the "Old South Look", meaning huge, old Live Oak trees with Spanish Moss hanging from them. River Street would be a nice walk. If you are there after 11 AM, you can sit outside of one of the many restaurants with Maci and have lunch or a beverage. The only down side is most of the shops do not allow pets inside and we would never leave Guinness tied up outside alone. Some owners do. That's taking a big chance Oh! Bring a camera. There are vast amounts of photo ops.

There is plenty of pet friendly lodging in the area. When we travel, we look at this web page for starters: http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/travel/uscities/guides/us/cities/... We recommend staying outside of town unless you are not concerned about the cost.

Parking in downtown Savannah is not a problem. One can always find a decent spot somewhere convenient. Please be aware there are meters everywhere. They are not expensive until you do not feed them. There are two types of meters; the standard drop a coin in and turn type and a pay station type where you put in money or a credit card and it gives you a ticket to put in your vehicle window. We prefer the latter, but you have to look for the station. The parking space will not have a meter and the pay station will be a short distance away. Make sure the ticket is on the driver's side dash and in plain sight of the meter maid when she/he makes their rounds.

As for the sights, try this web site: http://www.fodors.com/world/north-america/usa/georgia/savannah/sigh... One day is not a lot of time so choose places close to one another.

Hope you have a safe trip and let us know when you come through. We may be in the area. If you have any more questions, we will be glad to help you.

Hi Joyce - thanks so much for the warm welcome. I love southern hospitality. I use the same website at times to find lodging. I know a day isn't really enough time but when I usually come down from NJ, I drive as far as Savannah my first day and jump right back in the car the next day to continue on and always say I should take the time to go walk around. This year I figured I was going to take my time and at least spend a day there. I hear it is such a great town. I've written down a few of the dog friendly restaurants too - hope the weather cooperates. Whereabouts in Georgia are you? I will be in Savannah on Friday, November 20, so if you are in the area, would love to meet you.

Oh by the way, Guinness is so handsome. Please tell him Happy Belated Birthday from Maci and I. May I ask what breeder you got him from.

Thanks again for all the information - it is much appreciated.
Hi Kate- We are 10 minutes west from Exit 94 on I-95. Unfortunately, we are currently in Maryland and will not be back to Savannah until November 22. Let me know when you are coming back through and we can meet you near the exit. I will pass the birthday wishes on to Guinness. The breeder was Mountain Creek Labradoodles in Simpsonville, SC. We had a very good experience with them. Thanks and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Be careful on that road.
