Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This is Izzy. She was relinquished to Doodle Rescue Collective by her owners and is available for adoption. She is being fostered in Palatine, IL.
She is not quite three years old and weighs about 38 lbs. She is an F1B and has a soft wool coat that does not shed. She is spayed and up-to-date on all of her vaccines and preventatives.
She is housebroken, crate trained and knows all of her commands. She's also calm and has beautiful house manners.
Why is this wonderful dog looking for a home?
From her adoption listing:
"Purchased as a pup by first time dog owners with multiple young children, poor Izzy was thrust into a chaotic noisy, busy child-focused environment with a family that had no idea what they were getting into with a doodle. Although they did their best, the constant care and schedules of small children left little to no time to devote to Izzy's nurturing, care and training. Being a highly intelligent, people focused and somewhat sensitive and insecure puppy without proper direction, poor Izzy began interacting inappropriately with the small children in the house viewing them as if they too, were puppies and not humans.
Izzy's family thought they were doing the right thing when they sent her away to puppy training "boot camp" with what they came to learn was a disreputable, unaccredited "trainer." This trainer not only used harsh and completely inappropriate training methods, but also used a shock collar on poor Izzy who returned to her family even more fearful and insecure than she had been before. Her post boot camp behavior, became very much like that of a human with "Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome." When Izzy began resource guarding her food nipping one of the children out of fear while being mishandled by that child, her family felt they had no alternative but to put Izzy to sleep. Thankfully, we were contacted for assistance in the 11th hour and Izzy arrived safely in the DRC rescue program."
Izzy very much takes after the Poodle side of her heritage. She is smart as a whip, reserved and ladylike, and very people focused. She prefers to spend time with people rather than other dogs. She will eventually warm up to other dogs in her home, but it does take her a long time to do so. She prefers cuddling with her people or practicing her obedience training to playing with other dogs.
Izzy is also very reactive to other dogs on leash and while she walks beautifully on a leash, automatically heeling and sitting at curbs before crossing, she will also bark and lunge when she sees a strange dog. This is something her new owners will need to work on with her.
She also becomes very anxious in the car and will drool so heavily she soaks through towels. We believe this is due to the fact that she never went anywhere in a car except to the vet or the groomer, or to lose her home, and we are sure it can be overcome over time with short, pleasant rides so that she learns that riding in a car doesn't always mean something bad is going to happen.
Izzy has shown no aggression at all towards humans since she has been in foster care. She is friendly in a reserved way and will come to visitors for butt rubs, lol. She did display some resource guarding when she first arrived at her foster home, which took the form of softly growling at the other dog in her foster home, but she has never snarled or snapped at her, and they now get along beautifully. Izzy is fine with being handled and will let you groom her, clean her ears, or cut her nails with no resistance whatsoever. She sleeps in her foster mom's bed.
She needs a quiet, structured ADULT home with a fenced yard (absolutely no e-fences!) an experienced owner who is home a good part of the time and will continue to help Izzy be the best dog she can be. She would be ideal for a retired person or couple. We would love for her to continue her obedience training and maybe even get her CGC. She loves showing off how smart she is.
Because she is so stressed by car rides at this point, we are only considering homes within a two-hour drive of Palatine, IL. She will absolutely not be shipped anywhere.
Oh, and Izzy told me to tell you that she would really love an owner who is at least as smart as she is. LOL

What a cutie, she will find a good home soon I'm sure.
She has actually received a lot of applications, but none that match her "wish list" so far.
What a cutie. Mature owners who are mostly stay-at-home sounds ideal for Izzy. I'll bet there are lots of those on dk.
Thank you, Sue. Although a fenced yard is always preferred, it may not be necessary depending on the situation.
Thanks so much for your interest, but DRC will not adopt to homes with an e-fence, and Izzy in particular absolutely cannot ever wear an e-collar again. It would also not work to have her on leash while another dog is loose, she would be very reactive.
Hi Siobhan, DRC's adoption policies are that you must have owned a dog as an adult and have vet records in your own name in order to qualify to adopt. Children under 16 must also have lived with a dog in the home before. Izzy really does require a very, very experienced dog owner, and a very quiet adults-only home. She is not your typical playful, retrieverish doodle.
