Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Dewey went from 11 pounds at 11.5 weeks to 21 pounds at 15 weeks. We had noticed he lost his puppy face last week but we were only expecting him to come in around 15 pounds based on what I'd read in earlier comments about growing size. Yowza! We were told he'll be a medium labradoodle but now we're wondering. Anyone else have this crazy amount of growth in such a short period? His dad was a mini and his mom was full size so the vet said he could turn out any size (I'm hoping for big ;-) Here he is after getting his third set of shots today, poor guy.

Oh, what a cuteness! He's beautiful big or not so big.

Thanks, Helga!

Our pup went from 9 pounds at 8 weeks to 26 pounds in 16 weeks!

:)

I think, (I have two grown doodles), that your dog will be around 40-50 pounds!

:)

Wow, Emily! That's quite a growth!

Boy is he adorable!! Our little guy was already 20 pounds at 12 weeks...we have our last round of shots on Monday and I'm thinking Angus is gonna have a pretty good weight gain. I have read/heard that smaller dogs tend to grow and reach majority faster than larger dogs, so it's possible that because one of Dewey's parents was small that is why he's grown so rapidly...

Not to say he won't be big, but perhaps he won't be what I expect Angus to be 50+ lbs ... we shall see!!

Wow, 20 lbs! I hadn't heard about the growing fast if the dog is smaller but it makes sense. Time will tell!

Sounds like ours are about the same size. And yours is so cute!

Yes, this is normal.  At my 9 week appointment my vet said, " See you in a month and I expect the dog to DOUBLE his weight"

It will slow down now.  Expect half that the next month.

My medium doodle stayed at about 51lbs for several years.   Around three he filled out nicely. Still slender but built, he is over 60lbs.

So, yes, the weight gain is good.

At 16 weeks you should know just about how big your doodle may become. Take the 16 week weight and double then add 5-10 lbs.

20lbs at 16 weeks x 2 = 40. Plus or minus 5 for a grand total of 45lbs to 50 lbs adult dog.

So note that the 16 week mark is important. Until then, just watch and grow!   Enjoy

I'd missed seeing that calculation Joanne! SO helpful. We will see where he is next week. We are certainly enjoying the growth!

So good to know! I had really no idea what to expect, but our guy feels pretty solid at this point - and I've noticed his legs have definitely gotten taller! How much/how often do you all feed your little guys? It's nice to hear from so many others with puppies around Angus' age :)

Laura,

Please, join the Food Group  for a wealth of feeding information!!!!

Filbert, who is now 18 weeks and 32 pounds, eats 2 pounds of raw meat a day... (which is how much my adult, 75 pounds labradoodle eats)

that is A LOT OF FOOD. and he is pretty lean!
