Hi everyone, i just brought my pup home on Friday and it turns out she has Coccidia and Colitis(large intestine inflammation) the vet said. Apparently this is very common in puppies but the poor thing is having the worst time with her potty issues. She is now on a medicine and active culture powder. Has anyone else dealt with these parasites and issues? Any suggestions on encouraging her to eat her kibble also?

My puppy has had the same problem!!! However the vet did not mention the colitis...my guy is on the FortiFlora powder and it seems to help however, he still has non-firm stools. But getting better. Keep at it. Make sure your food your are giving him is a good food, with small kibble. I spray a bit of water on it, it makes it smell and gets him to eat. He just now @ 5 months is starting to really eat at one sitting. It took him almost an hour at one point to finish his bowl of food. How old is your pup?
thanks Sheila! She is only 8 weeks old, and seem to have little interest in the kibble. I am using very high quality food, and mixing it the vet recommened I/D canned food. She loves the canned and will pick around the kibble. The vet also gave me the FortiFlora powder so I hope that helps in combo with her meds.
Our puppy had coccidia too and it took two months of treatments to get rid of it. Be patient and keep giving the vet stool samples. He was also a picky eater and we found Solid Gold Puppy Food to be his favorite with shredded cheddar cheese sprinkled over top. Just a little to make it smell good. Good luck!

Also, wash all of his bedding with bleach often.
Hi, I'm sorry about your puppy and hope she is feeling better! Lily just came home on Sept. 3 and she has coccidia too, but not the colitis. She is on something called albon for ten days and then I'm supposed to take in a stool sample. She doesn't seem uncomfortable though and is eating okay. She didn't eat much for the first couple of days, but then got better after being better on the medicine. Maybe once the inflammation part goes away, she'll feel better. Everyone I've talked to says this is very common, especially with puppies and stress... I guess a lot of dogs have it, but it doesn't affect them as badly when they have more mature immune systems. Good luck! And keep us posted!
Barney was clear of coccidia when we brought him to the vet for his first check up. A few weeks later he started get very loose stools. The vet first put him on Tylosin (amazingly quick fixer). When we finished the prescription, his stools got loose again. We took a sample to our vet and it was positive for coccidia and he's being treated for it. The question was where did he get it, we were careful about taking him out until he had his last set of shots.

I think we figured it out. He has a favourite spot to dig and lie in under our back bay window. The other day my husband was doing some gardening and found an abondoned rabbit nest/hole. Needless to say, we're putting something up to keep him out of there.
Hi Everyone! I wanted to give an update on how Kensi is doing. We went to the vet yesterday b/c she is still having bad potty issues and appetite. They did another exam and found that she has Giardia and a raging case of Coccidea still. They have put her on Pancor and FortiFlora. They also said she is much to thin. Still 7lbs, hasn't gained one ounce. So they said to get anything in her that she will eat, forget the kibble for now we will worry about that later. I am hoping this new med will kick this thing so my poor girl will feel better!

Thanks for all your continued advice and responses!
