Yesterday, I took Lily to the beach with my friend and her 10 yr. old golden retriever. Lily gets very excited around new dogs and also in new situations and barks a lot. We just walked a little ways on the beach, keeping them mostly on leash. We did take them off leash at first because Lily was kind of wild on the retractable leash and I thought it felt dangerous. I knew she wouldn't leave the other dog. She pretty much barked the whole time (felt like an hour but was probably only about 20 minutes!) sometimes looking at me and sometimes at the other dog. I'm pretty sure she was not unhappy, just excited. Any thoughts or ideas on correction for the future? She is 15 weeks...

I would work on having her bark on command and give her a treat. After she does that command her to "quiet" and give treat. Keep repeating this until she knows what quiet means. I waould also maybe stay away from that dog or any others that she barks around until she has this down......you do not want to set her up for failure. Hope this helps, as I am not talking from experience on this particular issue:( GL:)
I also taught Samantha to speak on command so I could teach her quiet on command. When she would look me in the eye, I would tell her to "speak". I repeated myself until she did and when she did, she got a treat. Didn't take her long to figure it out. Once she was able to "speak" on command I was able to teach her to be quiet. If she kept speaking she would not get a treat. Didn't take her long to figure that out either. Consistency. What a fantastic command to have in your repertoire. Good luck
