Hi all,
Emma is doing very well, sleeping through the night (from about 10:30 until 6:00), so I'm very thankful for that. My question is, is it normal for her to be pooping 4-5 times a day? She has been pooping when I take her out first thing in the morning, and then she usually has at least four more a day! She's only eating about a cup of food per day, so I don't know where this is coming from! Also, when she pees, especially the first time of the day, she doesn't seem to empty her bladder entirely and needs to go at least twice, sometimes three times during one outing. Is this all normal? I did leave a stool sample with the vet on Wednesday, so hopefully there isn't anything going on (worms?). Any comments from the group are greatly appreciated.
I don't know it may be normal for your pup! LOL...I know Paddington goes anywhere from 3-4 times a day. And pee...He's only ever gone once during an outing except for one time when he was in his crate an extended period of time (for him that was 6 hours) and he went twice.
I'd trust your vet, they'll let you know :)
What are you feeding your pup that she's only eating 1 cup a day? Is she a mini? I only ask cuz Paddington is eating 3 1/2 cups a day according to the package!
Emma is a mini and weighs all of 5 pounds! She was 8 weeks on Tuesday. I'm going to call my vet right now and ask about the results of the stool sample (hopefully, there's nothing to be concerned about). As for the amount of food, I was feeding her only twice a day, since that is what the breeder was doing, but since she really wasn't eating much in the morning, I'm splitting the morning feeding and giving her 1/4 cup in the a.m. and 1/4 cup at lunchtime.
Glad to hear that her stools are good And I just figured out my Willson going inside his kennel Yea I was soo excited my spelling isn't the greatest because of that
I am feeding Willson what the breeder gave me 3 x's a day a keep the dish by his kennel, but I took it away when i put him to naptime and will refill it when he wakes up I will open the door to his kennel in a bit so he no's when he is done napping he can come out
Bailey does the same thing----it seems like he poops 6 times a day! And he doesnt completley empty his bladder in one shot when its been a long time. So I am thinking its all pretty normal!
Holly would poop very often and she would have soft stool if I fed her too much at one time. Therefore, I fed her 3 times per day until she was about four months old. I divided the recommended amount of food for her weight and age by three and fed her a portion early in the morning, at lunch time and in the late afternoon or early evening.
Holly would also have loose stool when she ate grass. She was fond of ripping up the lawn and eating the clump - dirt and all. Obviously her intestines did not like this addition to her diet. Luckily, she no longer makes meals of our lawn.
Holly would pee twice and poop once every time she went out to the yard. I worried about this and then found out from the breeder and from the vet that it was normal. She never pooped in the house but, she would often have an accident and urinate inside if we were slow in letting her out after eating or just after she awoke from a nap. Her saving grace was that she would pee as soon as her little feet hit the lawn. We would praise her for being a good girl.
Suddenly at about three months old, she became completely house trained. There was no tapering off, one day she was a "goldenpuddle" and the next day a fully house trained puppy. Holly is seven months old now and has not had an accident in the house since she was three months old.
We cannot claim credit for house training Holly, she did it on her own. However, we never scolded her regarding an accident after the deed was done, nor did we ever punish her for an accident. We would strongly say "No!" when we saw her start to pee in the house and immediately bring her out to the yard to finish and praise her for doing it. I think that having a fenced yard available made the house training process much easier. It would have been difficult if we lived in an apartment. But, then we would probably have not acquired a big dog like Holly.
Oh your Emma sounds just like Wrigley. Up till yesterday she was pooping 5-6 times a day, and yes she potties 2-3 times when we take her out. I would worry that she's got a bladder infection but she doesn't potty when she's inside (except for her two accidents) We're slowly switching her food over to the Canidae we hope to feed her long term, and yesterday she "only" pooped 4 times. Of course today it's been 3 times so far, so who knows.
