My miniature golden doodle has been the perfect puppy in my opinion....until recently. All of the sudden he seems to be getting into all kinds of mischief. He's now 6 months and bothering things in the house he never used to and also outside. Is this like the terrible 2s in children? This is my first puppy and people had warned me about how hard the puppy stage could be, I thought I'd lucked out. Now I'm beginning to think maybe he is just a late bloomer. At this moment he's sleeping on the rug looking like the sweet boy he's been up to this point.

Exactly what happened to me! Awesome puppy and I thought third times a charm, I'm good at this! 6 months old I had fresh minty dog breath from eating Burt's bees, toothpaste stolen, dog beds eaten. I wish I could remember it all (but it is well documented in Facebook!). He is 13 months now and still fun but not as naughty. Enjoy it, laugh at it, and try to keep him as safe as possible.

I totally understand what you are saying!  We had this adorable little puppy and she was what we thought was the "perfect" dog and then all of a sudden around six months we thought we had a different pup in the house!  She turned into a major "chewer" and she stopped at nothing!  Furniture, her bed, magazines, and absolutely anything she could get her paws on. She was in training and the trainer told us to use the "leave it command", get her toys to chew on (she didn't want to chew on those), put her in her crate for time outs and keep on with all her training.  It was very hectic at times and our furniture and yard took a major hit, but all of a sudden one day we looked at each other and said, "wow, she has grown up" and believe me, it happened just like that!  All the chewing on the wrong things had ended and she was our "perfect" puppy, well maybe I should not go that far, but we love her and she is a very good girl now!    Hang in there, things will change, this is a stage!

We are going thru the 6 month puppy zoomies. Penny is into everything. She has started counter surfing, stealing socks, shoes & anything she can find. And she is having a great time doing all this. Glad to know this will pass.

Sounds like your dog has entered the "teenage rebellion" phase ;)  Lasts for a few months (usually until just over a year), don't worry it will pass!  Just keep consistent with your training and it will be fine.  Besides, some of the mischief is good for a laugh :)

Luna managed to find a mud puddle in the middle of Winter when she was 7 months old...

"Can I come in?" (7 months)

You've hit adolescence. Just double up your training efforts. Since he's been so easy he might quickly fall back in line. Have you taken him to obedience classes? If not, sign up. It's time for formal training. If he's been through beginning classes sign him up for intermediate or increase your practice sessions. Good luck! Please keep us posted on his progress.

Yes! I have a six month old puppy, and he has been great (and still is great). But I have noticed he doesn't listen to me like he used to -- I think he is testing me. Fun! :)
