Hello Everyone -
Zara got spayed on Tuesday afternoon, her surgery ended at 12:30pm and we picked her up from the vet at 6pm. Upon picking her up she seemed fine, just kind of out of it as expected but she would not walk so we carried her to the car.
Wednesday came around - Still not walking more than a few steps and then sits down.
It is now Thursday (48 hours after surgery) and still she's not walking normal. I called the vet and they said her stitches are probably pulling and sensitive and she's being over cautious.
I was told my many that she would be acting normal a day or two after being spayed. Also, she hasn't taken a BM yet.
Anyone experience this?

Stacy that must have been such a terrifying situation to go through! I know that you may feel the "should of, would of" thoughts, but you were trusting the opinion of the professionals.....which Im sure we all would do or are supposed to do. Try not to blame yourself, but you are so right: Just like us humans, we know our bodies and if you think that there is something wrong then you have to insist that your dr looks into it more...we have to be the same way with our pets since they have no voice. They live with us 24/7 so we are the ones that know are pets the best. If the vet doesn't want to help, then switch vets if possible. Did your dog recover from the second surgery nicely?
It was a terrible few weeks! And I do feel guilty, but at the same time I know that I did the best that I could for her under the circumstances. I just always wish she didn't have to go through so much. She's had more than her fair share.
I am personally still looking for the right vet. I feel like there has to be a middle ground between doing every test for every sneeze and not doing anything at all. But since Ava has pretty much been seeing specialists for everything we haven't been looking that hard.
She did recovery very nicely after the second surgery. No further problems. It was just so unexpected in a routine surgery that every vet has done hundreds or thousands of time. And I certainly don't think it will happen to anyone else. I just think people should really advocate for their pets. Maybe I could have prevented some of the drama if I had pushed harder the second time we went back to the vet.
Yes, such a routine surgery should have been without complications. Very scary. Your little one was a rare occurrence for sure. I'm so glad they were able to stop the bleeding when they did <3 Last year Chloe had to be put under to have a tooth removed (she slammed her face into our brick fire pit in the yard chasing her frisbee)... a 10 minute surgery made me nervous!! LOL She came to work with me afterwards so that I could keep an eye on her as my husband was working that day too. Her being groggy and not wanting to drink for a little while made me panic. ;-) I don't know what I'd be like if I had to go through what you did!
How is Zara doing now?
She's back to normal now! I took her to the vet on day 4 post surgery because she still was not back to herself. Everything checked out fine and said some just take longer, that there isn't also an explanation. By day 7 post surgery she was finally back to herself. We are not sure why it took that long but we are happy to have her spunky again :)
Oh, Im so happy to hear that! I know my Daphne had stitches with what looked like fishing line and the vet had left them too long and they were bothering her. It made her jump around and act strange. The vet said they were fine and wouldn't trim them so I did it myself at home. They have to be able to rest!
I'm so glad she's doing better. Hooray.
