Yesterday was not a fun day at our house - I had some out patient surgery scheduled and I had to be there at 6:30 a.m., and without having anything to eat or drink since mid-night - which means mom didn't get her usual gallon of coffee = ugly morning.  DH had flown to NYC Monday a.m. and then back again that same night just so he could be here to take me.  Our normal schedule was way off and I wondered if Rooney would notice.  So off we left at 5:45 a.m. and we took Rooney in the puppy hauler with us.  The pre-puppy me would have wanted dh there for the surgery but now I didn't want Rooney home that long alone so I had dh walk me into the surgery clinic with me and just leave me there.  Lol.  So when I was all done around 10:00 dh and Rooney show up to take a very groggy momma back home.  Big ol bandage wrapped around my head, I wasn't feeling or looking to good.  I knew that I would be laying around for the better part of a few days and was a little bit worried that Rooney in his puppy exuberance might jump on or into me, well I could not believe what my little 8 month old did.  Of course I am looking like the bride of frankenstien right now but do dogs notice that?  Or could he smell the medicine?  Or is he just that clued into my behavior?  Because my little man came and layed very gently on me, softly licking my hand.  He stayed on the couch with me almost all day, sometimes by my feet but always touching some part of my body.  DH had a difficult time getting Rooney to go outside and potty - he didn't want to leave my side.  I know that dogs are very perceptive but at 8 months?  Wow - I was blown away.

I just had 2 surgeries and 3 hospital stays for kidney stones in 10 days and Lucy did the very same thing! :)

I was in A LOT of pain. My hubby would lift her up and put her in bed with me and she would curl right up and go to sleep.

She did this most of the time. :) She is 7 months and VERY hyper on a normal day. The minute I was feeling better, she was back to her normal crazy self :)

I hope you feel better!

Ouch, I hope YOU are feeling all better!!!!!
I am doing better :) Lucy was HORRIBLE at training on Thursday. No one worked with her for about 2.5 weeks. We are back on track now! I am glad you are feeling better!

Hi Jane...

I hope that you are feeling better today...and I want you to know that I will be keeping you in prayer as you recover from your surgery.

What a sweet boy Rooney is...taking care of his Mom!

Yes...I do think they are "that" perceptive...and can sense what we are going through...our emotions...etc...and pick up on things like that.

I'm sure Rooney plans to take care of his Mom...just like you have Always taken such good care of him!

He loves  you so much..that .he wants to be by your side when you aren't feeling well and are in pain.

As for being perceptive...they are So perceptive! .

They can sense our moods and any changes around them...and  I've noticed with Sasha... that their behavior will change accordingly.

I'm so glad that you have your boy there there to comfort you Jane...and your DH too...of course!  Lol...

Wishing you a speedy recovery...and enjoy the extra TLC that you're getting!!  (smile)

Jane, I hope you feel better soon. Rooney, You are one good pup!!!

Hope you recover & feel better soon Jane.

I do think Dogs can perceive when we are not well. I had many surgeries over the last couple years.  My Dog Deja always knew when I did not feel good.  After my 1st big surgery I was in so much pain.  She sat next to the couch for hours.

it was then that I realized just how much a dog can make a person relax.  I had never felt such calm on my part when I pet her before on a normal day...But when I was in so much pain.  Petting her really made me feel better.

it was funny.  As soon as I felt better after surgery- She was on the bed with me in the morning.

Dogs are so sensitive to their humans that it just blows me away.  I am going to have neck surgery soon and was also worried about Molly's behavior around me.  Thanks for posting your experience, I now feel better.  I was thinking that I was going to have to lock myself away from her, she is just 4 1/2 months tho.  Rooney is a sweetie♥♥
Good boy Rooney!  Hope you recover quickly Jane.
Yes, dogs are very perceptive and seem to know just what to do to make you feel better.  My big dog, Hondo, was the one who was right by my side when I was sick.  He would only leave to go to potty or to eat.  He would just lie next to me, a few times for several days.  When he was sick, he would also crawl gently onto our bed and lie right next to me.  He seemed to get some comfort from the physical contact.  He never got on the bed during the night unless one of us was sick.  Dogs are amazing.

Oh I'm absolutely sure that Rooney knew his Mum needed lots of TLC.  Dogs and indeed Cats are super sensitive to our moods and needs.  I was in hospital six years ago for three weeks and was in bed for a further month.  My bed was like animal farm with two dogs and a cat permanently in situ!

I do hope you are feeling a lot better today.

Good boy Rooney!  Of course they know - they are that intuitive! Heck, some claim they detect cancer in humans!  When I am sick, Peri and Taquito lie next to me and do not move.  Taquito is the snuggliest. Pre-Peri (she had been born but was at breeders), I had outpatient surgery and he literally did not leave my side unless DH physically removed him (that was only to go out and peepee!).

Hope you are feeling better!  Thinking of you!

You couldn't ask for a better snuggle pup at this point:) Hope you are up and feeling better soon...thoughts and prayers are floating your way!!
