OK... so Maizey has been on a bland diet for 10 days now due to a UTI and soft stools... so we have had to be creative with treats and activities involving food... SO.. the vet recommended using the Step 2 Gerber Baby foods (pure beef, chicken, turkey or ham without any onion poweder, etc.) as a way to mask the bitterness of the medicine. Well I decided to put some baby food in the kong and freeze it... wow does that stuff smell nasty, but she LOVES it! Anyone whose looking for a bland, healthy Kong treat... you should try this.
She's so funny... she'll leave it for a minute to take a break but can't resist and comes right back. Hilarious :)
Great idea - thanks for sharing! We've been looking for something different to give Bentley in his Kong. He's 12 weeks old and we weren't sure how soon to start expanding his diet with fruit/veggies/peanut butter, etc. To this point, we've just been using his kibble - sometimes with a little dollop of the Kong Stuffin' cheeze-whiz stuff for puppies on the end - and he loves that, but this sounds like an excellent way to start mixing things up.
I fill the whole kong up with it.. probably a few tablespoons if you were to calculate it. Just make sure to buy the Second Step food (without onion or garlic powder as those can be toxic to dogs!)
Hi,
I'm also wondering what is okay to put in the KONG....I'm forever worried about loose stools...I just finished switching Molly's food over to Innova and she's doing well. Have any of you had a problem after giving these foods in the KONG?
Thanks
