I was wondering what time do other puppies go to bed and wake up? Teddy is almost 9 months old and he falls asleep between 8 and 9 pm. Usually closer to 8 if he's played a lot or had a busy day, and later if he hasn't been as active. He sleeps until we are ready to go to bed at 10 or 11, has a potty break and goes back to sleep for the night. Teddy sleeps until 6 or 6:30 am. He wakes up briefly when my husband leaves for work at 5:45 but goes back to sleep.
I would love it if Teddy slept a bit later! 6:30 am is great on weekdays, because I'm up by then and I play with him and take him on his walk. But on weekends I would love to sleep in a tiny bit later, even until 7:30. Do puppies start sleeping later as they age? Or should we try to keep him up later in the evening? I would appreciate any advice :) Thanks!!

Kirby is 17 months old. I think I'm lucky --if I sleep in, she sleeps in. If I get up early, she gets up early. She's very mellow in the morning. Actually, she's mellow all the time. For bedtime, it's the same --whenever I go to the bedroom is good for her--after all she can always curl up on the sofa and catch a nap while she is waiting. She just likes being in the same room.
When she was younger, of course I had to take her out early in the morning to pee. I guess it all changed about the one year mark. Someone told me to remember "Let sleeping dogs lie" If you wake your puppy up a lot, you will end up with a hyper-active dog.
Lily is almost 18 weeks. She goes to sleep around 9:00ish (not crated at that time), and then I take her out around 12:00 for potty. She sleeps in her crate until about 8-8:30 a.m. I was worried that with the crate being in the living room she would wake up and start crying when my husband goes to work around 4:30 a.m., but she hasn't had any problems sleeping through that.
When Jack was a puppy I crated him at night, he would get up in the morning when I went to work and he would go to daycare... Weekends I would get up with him, let him potty and then put him back in his crate to sleep. I love my dog to death but I need my sleep....
Molly who is now 10 weeks old is on a good schedule that will work for my mom, not so great for me, but since she is my mom's dog ( my mom is staying with me till her house is done being built) it works for her. Molly goes to bed at 9 30 and sleeps till 6 30 usually without a peep, sometimes one potty break. Then my mom gets up with her and gives her breakfast and she is up for the day.
Right now my mom is away so I have both dogs. Jack has been out of a crate since about nine months, He is so in tune with me he hates the mornings, When I get up to go potty he doesn't budge, and in the end when I needed him to be ready for daycare, he would be hiding under the covers sleeping.. He now does whatever I do, They do adjust to your schedule.
Today I screwed up Molly's schedule.. I went out, she didn't get her 5 pm dinner until 9 30 and it is almost midnight here and I just put her to bed. I let her and Jack run wild and play... Tomorrow, I will get up with her to potty only and she will go back in the crate till at least 8 or so, then I will give her breakfast, let her potty and I will go back to bed and she will go in play pen..... It is safe in there, lots to do, lots to play with.
When I get up she will have several hours of free play inside and out....
To me, my sleep will always come first and I think the dogs will adjust to whatever we do with them..
I say on the weekends put him back in the crate and go back to sleep, if he won't go back in, put him in a play pen in another area of the house where he can play and entertain himself.....
sleep well
Question- pup is almost 5 months but have only had him for 3 weeks now- he goes in crate at 10PM every night (after going to bathroom) but is waking up at 5. I am pretty confident he can go until 6 or even 6:30 because he has done that a few times, but now he is barking like crazy at 5. I have tried to ignore him for 10 or 15 minutes hoping he goes back to bed but maybe I should wait it out longer to see if he will go back to bed. Once he is up though, he is up and playful so taking him out to pee and returning to crate will not work. Thoughts?
Also, on a different topic, puppy is perfect in crate at night, not a peep, but barks, scratches, and cries when we put them in there during the day to go to work...only for a few hours...He eventually calms down, but wonder why he hates it during day but fine at night? I put toys and treats in there..hopefully he will get used to it. I feel like he is safer in crate for now while we are away.
Salvador is WONDERFUL when it comes to sleeping at night/waking up in the morning! He usually falls asleep outside of the crate around 10 pm, but will be up and down until I take him out for his last potty time (anywhere between 11 pm and 1 am) and then he goes into the crate. During the weekdays, he sleeps until 8/8:30... on Saturdays, he sleeps later... like today I woke him up around 10 am... I do cover his crate at night and it keeps him sleeping longer, I think. He is 6 months old.
