Anyone bell training their puppy? We have had great success with the bells, one day Chianti just got it and started ringing the bells. It was great, accidents just stopped in the house. Well two days later she discovered she can ring the bells whenever she wants and we take her out. We have started tying her up to our kitchen table when we take her out and she does not go, but honestly I don't think she cares. We live in the city and 6 times out of 10 we see another dog which is total motivation for her to be outside

The poochie bell website says just ignore it if it is within the hour, but she barks like crazy if we don't let her out when we ring the bells. She also sometimes goes in the house if we ignore it within the hour of her doing both.

Anyone have any ideas? words of wisdom? TIA

We have had the same situation with Piper; I have removed the bell right after we bring him in from outside (knowing that he has just gone) and then pull it back out after four hours or so (when he isn't looking:)). Alternatively, if he rings the bell (and he obviously doesn't have to go) then I try to distract him with his rope or other high-value toy. Hope this helps...
Lucca did that for a little while in the beginning. Then he stopped after he realized we weren't going...again!! What he does now is ring the bell to get my husband to give him a nibble. The door and bell are close to the kitchen table!! This only happens in the morning. Smart doods!!!
These doodles are SO smart! They learn so quickly that if they ring the bell, they can go out (for whatever reason). We did the same as Kathy. Now.... so sad, she's becoming such a big girl that she doesn't ring the bell much anymore. She just goes to the door waits and barks. It almost makes me sad. I miss the rining now... LOL
we did the same as Kathy J (below did). we also eventually took the bells away so now he just goes to the door and stares at us and will not look away until we take him out. so they worked out great for us, stick with it! :)
Take those bells away!!! Peri figured out very quickly that meant outside time. She was driving us bananas! After we took them away, she figured out how to warn us in other ways. Now she jumps up and barks at the doorknob, like she wants to turn it herself :)
The bell works!! Lucca loves it and we love it because he doesn't bark at the door!!!!. He still uses it at 13 months!!!
We have used bells on two doors since our first doodle came home at 9 weeks. We intentionally trained both our girls that the bell doesn't mean "I have to go potty"....ringing the bell gets us to open the door. We (the dogs and us) work together to understand what the specific situation is about. Both our dogs like the night air and would ring the bell just to go outside and lounge in the fresh air. We put a stop to that pretty quick when they started ringing the bell at 1:00 AM for a "fresh air break". Now after the final trip outside for the evening we put the bell up. If they have an emergency and really need to go out, they'll come to the side of the bed a put a paw up to wake us up.
About the same time they realized they could ring the bell to go out just because they feel like it, we also became pretty skilled at reading their body language. We can distinguish between the two. We have a fenced yard and are glad to accommodate their inside/outside moods. Sometimes one girl just wants a little break from her sister---a little private time. It's not unusual for one or both to spend a couple hours out in the yard on their own.
Guinness usually goes and sits at the door, and we take him out. If we're in another room and don't see him, that's when he rings the bells. He just started this a couple of weeks ago. So far he doesn't ring it unless he really has to go.
Hung out bells last week. Darby is so smart that after showing her once what the bells were for she got it. She never ceases to amaze me. I'm no help on how to get you Dood to only ring for potty.Right now, Darby only rings for potty, but that was just pure luck. Like you, next week couple bring bell ringing for chasing squirrels or bird or just some fresh air. Good Luck. hope you figure it out.
I noticed with zoe that sometimes when she goes outside she isn't finishing her business so she gets to go out again. Also, she romps alot in the house with her sister a min poodle, but she knows outside means big walks around the yard {to young to hit the neighborhood} and running and exploring. Since you said other dogs are her motiviation, maybe she just craves more outdoor fun with other dogs. Try extending her outside time, which may cut down on frequency. IF she continues to bark, I would definitely try an indoor paly time to get her mind off outside and playing than napping indoors. Good luck and keep us posted
