Profile Information

About Me:
Wife and I have been married 40 years. 4 adult kids; 6 grand-kids.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We have two medium F1 golden-doodles from the same breeder.
They have the same dad but different moms---they are 9 months apart in age. Our girls are Daisy (dob: 7/11/08) and Maggie (dob: 4/2/09)
Daisy hit 35 lbs at 6 months and has stayed within a pound of that weight ever since. She has very dominant poodle traits and is very quick and agile. Maggie hit 70 lbs before one year. Now she's closer to 65 lbs at 18 months. Very dominant retreiver traits in looks and behavior---plus she SHEDS.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
intelligence, personality, minimal shedding and of course her fabulous good looks and abundant charm
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Daisy loves to run and chase. She can run flat out for 15 minutes straight.
Maggie runs out of gas in about 3 minutes. Her favorite game is playing keep away with a tennis ball. (she wins alot)
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Yes!, A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
We are trying to groom them ourselves. In reality---so far---we are lengthening the time between professional groomings by trimming about once a month. But our skills are still limited so we end up up taking them in periodically to get our work "cleaned up".
Relationship Status:
Married
Would you be willing to Dog Sit on occasion for other DoodleKisses members? (You are NOT committing to anything by saying yes - you are just saying you might be willing to do this if you were acquainted with the other member and the circumstances were right.)
Yes

What kind of doodle is this ???

Posted on June 28, 2009 at 1:55am 12 Comments

My daughter in law sent me this picture. It is clearly a poodlle mix of some kind but I can't quite make out what kind.............
she's only about 17 months in this picture. It's hard to tell how big she will get.
There are some behavior issues---but nothing insurmountable.

Finding (and testing) the Limits

Posted on June 17, 2009 at 10:25pm 8 Comments

Poor Maggie has been so distracted by Daisy that she hasn't had too many opportunities to seek out and test what is acceptable and not acceptable in her new enviroment. She's still in survival mode. It has come to the point where we keep them separated for much of the day and evening. One comes in; the other goes out.

But I remember an instance when Daisy trying to discover what she could or couldn't do.

It was probably her first week home. She was all of 5 lbs. We were… Continue

I Can't See You----so that means I'm hiding

Posted on June 17, 2009 at 12:29am 7 Comments

Yesterday little Maggie was chasing around the yard and randomly dropping down on her belly---laying as flat as she could in the grass just tall enough to reach her "eyebrows".

She would raise her head just a smidge to look around the yard and see who might be tracking her.

I just had the sense that she felt invisible when she pressed her head down and her eyes dropped into the tall grass.

It reminded me of our golden retriever Bonnie. She was a big girl. Even if she… Continue

Cuz That's What Big Sisters Do !

The Drurys have a reputation for embellishing stories for the sake of making them more entertaining. This is a personality defect that goes back many generations. It is particularly prevalent in males.

But you have my word that this doodle tale is the truth---every word of it.

The cast of characters is small: Daisy, the 11 month old golden doodle; Maggie, the 10 week old golden doodle who had only been with us 48 hours; mom--napping in the guest bedroom at 4 PM;… Continue

New Puppy has been christened. And her name is..........................

Posted on June 14, 2009 at 2:50pm 8 Comments

Maggie.

(Magnolia, mag-o-licious, mag dog, mag-nanimous....)

The short list for names had been whittled down to Iris, Rhoda.......oh yeah.....and Maggie----a previous front-runner now slipped from the spotlight.

We spent the first day together and in my mind I was trying to decide between Iris and Rhoda. My wife was as well.

Neither one was feeling right. But it was just day one; not a normal day. Daisy was being a freak and the little one barely slept all… Continue

Steve, Thank you so much for making the really cool picture of my dogs! I love it!! I was thinking that it would make a great greeting card to send to friends and family! Actually, DoodleKisses will be forming their groups for Christmas cards...a photo that is "touched up" in Corel would be something fun and different for a Christmas Card, what do you think?? Is Corel Paint an expensive program?? I saw a while back you also did a photo for Ned, Nancy & Clancy. It was wonderful. I feel badly that I didn't respond before!

Very cute! The colors seem so bright in the photo. I can totally understand collecting photos of these adorable dogs. I'm becoming more and more of a doodle addict, and Mater is three now! I've started to help foster doodles as well, and that is very gratifying! Thanks for 'painting' the photo of Mater and his friends!

Thank you for all the info. I agrre with your wife about dog parks they really scare me. I have heard some not so great stories. We live not too far from the school. Have you had any complaints about the dogs? I would love to let Bella and Claire run free. We like taking them to Leo Cabrillo beach all dogs have to be on leashes...less stressful too!
We also have grandchildren 4yrs. and 5 1/2 months they are such a pleasure.

Claire is our 2nd golden, and just loves her little sister Bella. Claire is 60lbs and Bella 50 although Bella looks bigger with all her fluff. Bella and Claire both love to play. Where do you take your doodles? Maybe, we could have a play date sometime.

She is absolutely darling. I can only hope my new grand baby (first one too) will be as cute as she it! Does she live near by?

Ha! Deleted the photo from quick add and re-added it my usual way and it worked! Too bad I had to delete the originally added one because I already had some very cool comments about your work.

Argh! I got it onto my photos, but something is not working on the site. I can't add or edit an album right now so I will have to try later.
PS how is that darling poodle-mix grandbaby doing? Any current pictures of her? Surely she isn't the one looking out the window.
