Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey all,

Been a while since my last post.. work has been keeping me really busy, and I'm on a break between classes. Have also just been enjoying my time with the little munchkin.

I guess my only source of doodle concern right now is with the best toys for me to give her. She's SUCH a strong chewer and really enjoys destroying basically everything I give her. My concern with things like booda bones is that she tends to rip little pieces/strings off of whatever she's eating, and swallows them. I've read horror stories that I guess have me pretty freaked. What do you guys give your dood pups? Am I just being paranoid again?

Nylabones - they've got ones specifically for puppies, and then you can move up to the ones for adult strong chewers. I swear those things saved our baseboards from becoming victims of Mindy's insane chewing.

The red classic Kong is the only toy Darwin has not been able to destroy... we've had it for 2 years.

Antlers are a natural, long lasting treat for them to chew on. Check into them.  Coco loves them!

Nylabones, Kongs, and Antlerz!!!

The black Kong products are also very strong. The Nylabones are great too, but the ends sometimes get very sharp fragments from the chewing and can cut you pups lips or cause chapping. My DH usually just sands the sharp fragments down with a belt sander and then we give it back to her.

Hi Eva...

I can totally relate to what you're saying...

Although Sasha is loving...she's such a hearty chewer and goes through All of her toys in no time too!  (smile)

Here is what she likes best...

Beef Marrow Bones...these are raw so she chews them for one day and then  they have to be cooked.  Boil them for 15-20 minutes and then Fenway will have a wonderful chew that will keep him happy and be good for his teeth too!

Split Antlers...Sasha likes them split so she can get to the marrow.

Nylabones...I get her the large ones since she is 80lbs.  You might want to check the "search box' since some people on DK like these and some don't.

Kongs...Sasha doesn't chew these...but for an occasional treat I fill them with peanut butter or yogurt and freeze it.  This will keep Fenway happy for a while.

I hope this is helpful to you and Fenway.  He's such a cutie...

Sasha sends great big Doodle Hugs to Fenway...

Bully sticks are also great, natural, and last a long time for Rosie.

Hi everyone! After the awesome advice on here I've been trying a bunch of things out to see what lasts - and thought I'd share in case anyone else is struggling with a similar issue. Most toys last approximately 6 hours around here at best, even nylabone.

I found that the "Extreme Kong" products are best. They are rubber, so do not chip her teeth, but she can't destroy them. UNFORTUNATELY, she does not like things she can't destroy or eat and would not play with these. Enter, the goodie bone! I've been putting those dental treat sticks into the two ends of them and breaking them off so she can't pull it out. 4 straight days and she's not bored yet. Thanks DK, and I hope this helps someone else!

Wally is also a powerful chewer. It drives me nuts! I don't leave anything but kong and bone (the stuffable kind) in his crate. He has chewed up 2 crate pads so far.(so he has nothing right now!) I hope he outgrows this! I do give him other toys when I am watching him but they usually get destroyed. I give him bully sticks for chewing but it doesnt seem to satisfy! Is it an anxious behavior?
