Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey guys,

what are your opinion on BULLY STICKS vs ANTLERS for my 12 week old tiny goldendoodle pup coming home next month?

Breeder said she likes bull sticks.

Wanted to hear your opinion regarding one vs the other.

Also, if you can......

What is your favorite bully or antler to buy???

Lots of choices out there

I'll check out the Himalayan chews - I  just ordered a single 1 through amazon (i have prime so cant beat free shipping, but boy they're pricey - hope it lasts!).  I really wanted Zoe to like the deer antlers but she just didn't take to them.  Bully sticks are hit and miss with her - sometimes she likes them, sometimes she just walks away when I give her one.  I recently gave her a bit of cheese for the first time and she went nuts so maybe she'll like the Himalayan chews.  Cow ears she goes nuts for, but they don't last and I really want something she'll chew on for a while.

Don't skimp on size! They last longer in our house, but, like I said, they break and then I have to throw it away, for fear Enzo chokes on it. Even the larger ones break when thrown ( Enz flips them) on marble floors. Some stink more than others, but smell like rotten cheese. Of course, Enz loves them. :p

I purchased a large size, but only a single one - I didn't want to buy a whole pack of them if it turns out she just doesn't like them.  We have a tile kitchen so I'll have to watch her the first time I give it to her -

Luther likes to flip his around and chase after his elk antler. My 2 year old likes to throw it too. Thankfully (fx) it hasn't broken on our hardwood floors yet.
Enzo hasn't broken any antlers yet....... It's the Himilayian Yak bones she keeps breaking.
I much prefer antlers. I have a 13 lb mini poodle who loves them. Our doodle pup loves his elk antler I got him (he's bigger lol). It especially seems to be helping with the teething. It's his preferred gnawing object (well, that he's allowed to lol). He redirects to it very easily!
Antlers last a looooot longer than bully sticks, and they don't stink. I hate the stench of bully sticks. Plus, a dog is less likely to have a sensitivity to an antler than a bully stick (which is a tendon).
Try the odor free ones.

I love bully stocks. Great babysitting tool and seem to keep Hurley's teeth white and clean.  I don't get them in a regular store.  I order from a lady who gets them from a rancher in Utah.

Yarrow loves the bully sticks.  Not all brands are created equally. Open Range braided bully sticks are the best for Yarrow.  They last the longest and do not give her the runs as Eurocan Bullwrinkles brand does.  Both claim to be 100% natural.  We only tried the Bullwrinkle because it was substantially cheaper.  After it made her sick, I compared labels and found that Open Range is from organically raised beef and is not smoked.  Yarrow also loves her antler.  It's a different texture.  Apparently puppies like to chew on many different things for the different textures.  It was expensive but it lasts longer than a whole crate of bully sticks.  I just wish I had known that the best antler for a young pup is one that has been split revealing the tasty center.  Yarrow is 4 months old now and the love of my life!  Congratulations on your new puppy.
