Finn and I went to the dog park yesterday. He had a ball! Ran around like a nut for over an hour. Today, not only is he sore from all that romping, but he is chewing on his pads like crazy. I found a piece of his pad on my bed this morning. When I can get a hold of his paws I can feel the spot that he chewed out. The park is gravel so I think he tore up his feet and they are bothering him today. He takes allergy medicine daily so I know it's not allergies that are causing the chewing. Is there something I can put on his pads that will soothe him. Or just wait a few days for them to heal. Thanks.
I bought a pad moisturizer at petco for Oakley's paws and rub it in at night when he is mellowed out. I bought the petco brand but Burt's bee also makes one. Oakley's paws get really rough climbing on the lakefront rocks by our lake house and this seems to have helped.
My daughter took Zoey for short a run last week and she came home with her pads peeling and she's been in a lot of pain. We've been soaking them regularly and putting antibiotic cream on them. Any suggestions?
Our vet said to put a thin layer and give him a distraction like a chew toy. He said unless they ingest a lot it is not going to harm him. It talks about being safe on the label as well. Oakley seems to be ok and not interested in licking if he has a chew toy to keep him busy.
