lol yes, crusty winky!

is this normal?

Oliver has some crust on his boy parts.

Technically it's on the hair, at the tip of his boy parts - but that hair does get a little crusty from his urine.

Is this normal?

You should take your dog to the vet. It could be infection. I did had a westie and he never had a problem. I have t-cup poodle now and he have no problem. I have Goldendoodle now but she is a girl.

Okay I'm sorry but I saw this in my inbox "crusty winky" and it really made me laugh.

I noticed that Max sometimes has this too, I don't know if it's normal or not, but I did read that when they are groomed that the hair there should be trimmed to avoid infections and such, so I kind of assumed it was because of the crustiness.

I am sure someone who knows the answer will come along :D

After his next bath, try 'drying' him off each time he goes out to go pee. We give Boomer a quick dab to soak up anything on his hairs and haven't had any issues with crusting.

What color is his urine? If it's clearer there'll be less minerals so the crusting shouldn't happen as quickly, but if it's super yellow you may want to leave his water out longer (or moisten his food to force him to hydrate more during meals)

If you have a vet appointment coming up, I'd ask them about it. Better yet, just give them a call! Much faster and they can give you better feedback on what to do.

Thanks for all the info so far.

To reiterate, its not his actual winky thats crusty - he just has some long hairs in front of it - and thats crusty.

His urine is yellow. Is that a sign of dehydration?

We crate train him, and we also don't leave water out for him all day (as we were told not to at this age)

We do give him plenty of water with all 3 meals tho.

Yellow urine means a higher concentration of minerals (or whatever) to water. A well hydrated person (and dog) will have clearer urine that does not smell. We limited Boomer's water intake at 30 minutes during meals, then 1 hour, and now we just leave it until 7PM, as he has not had as many accidents with peeing. His urine ranges from light yellow to relatively clear, and doesn't smell. When we limited his water, his urine was very yellow, so we decided to give him better access to avoid him dehydrating.

In addition to giving him access to water, if you feed him dry food, I'd soak it in a decent amount of water- almost like a soup or congee, to force your dog to get some water into them while they eat. Sometimes they just don't get enough water before you take away the bowl. Like this, our pup's really increased his water consumption (with an increase in accidents when we started doing this but it's subsided) and we feel better now that his urine isn't radioactive yellow.

One more question, does he regularly lick himself there? If he doesn't, that could be another contributing factor.

Larry, Max gets the same just a little bit on his hairs. He just went in for a full checkup and was fine, so I dunno. I just assumed it was a little bit of pee on there. I know that Max drinks a lot of water, he always has water and I don't pick it up at night because since he was fully trained I've never had trouble with him having an accident or anything. Malenie and John are right though it's probably best to ask the vet if you're worried about it.

I'd clip the hair off & see what happens...

Never hurts to check with your vet, but I bet it's just some dried dribble.  A wet towel to wipe after peeing until he eventually starts licking his "boy parts" himself which I bet he eventually does!  Then, of course he will lick your face!

lol oh the doodle humor

Picco has a "crusty winky" a couple days after his bath. At least in his case it's just the urine drying and also dirt. I do trim him after a bath and have washed him off between baths.  I agree to keep him clean and see if that is all it is but if you are concern there is nothing wrong with going to the vet.

LOL - ok, just the title and I'm laughing so hard I'm crying.  I don't meant to offend it it's a serious issue- but this made my day :-)

You and me both Kelly. This sounds like a new Simpson character!
