Searched the site, but couldn't find the answer. Anyone got something that really works?

Lol new or used, my girls love them and it doesn't matter how high the box is they someone find and reach it, shred the box, tp the house and then life is good???

So they do work! I ordered the exact model 3 years ago and ended up returning it because it wouldn't work - even with the most expensive batteries (the light came on, but nothing else happened). How long have you had it? I just might give that can a second chance. :O)

Not sure how big your doodle is, but this works great for us. I love it!

Simple human 50L slim open steel trash can. They also come in other shapes and sizes.
It curves over at the top to keep them from reaching in.
Check it out. It looks cool too!
Small one bedroom condo in City. Small City Kitchen
Laundry Room in my condo building.

I have 2 large doodles and we use a "Simple Human" stainless steel step can.  We bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond.  I love it because it's big, and the lid closes flat so there is no lip for the pups to get their paws under.  It doesn't open well without stepping either.  They are pricey but worth it in my opinion.

DITTO!

We have a metal trashcan with a lid, but the lid closes slowly so he gets his nose in there and flips it open. What we started doing is get a whole bunch of paper towels and soak it with bitter apple. We then tuck the wad of paper towels between the inner liner of the trash can and the actual can so it stays toward the top. I've also tried taping it there. You have to make sure you keep spraying it every so often so it stays wet. He avoids the trashcan now. But it is something we have to do every so often to remind him.

Ned is the only dog I have ever had that didn't outgrow getting into the trash, especially paper trash.  In the RV we use a smallish wastebasket (a grocery bag fits inside) under the sink in the 'kitchen' and for the one in the bathroom, we keep the door closed. We do have to empty them often.

Zeus used to get into my trash cans - all over the house - when he was a puppy. What I did was verbally scold him when I caught him in the act. It only took him two scolds and he stopped doing it. However, he still loved unrolling the toilet paper. I found a personalized-voice-activated toilet paper spindle, which I was going to order the next day, but he stopped rolling the bathroom, so I didn't need it. My point is that a verbal scold can work if you can catch your Dood in the act. But, if you're not around to see it or your Dood is stubborn, I'd definitely recommend what many others suggested ... a lidded can. It'd be best for the lid to only open on one side, and when you're away from your condo, turn the opening toward the wall and place a bungie cord around it ... and perhaps even put a chair or some other furniture in front of it, if necessary.

They are a bit pricey, but I love mine. My sister has had hers for 10 years and talked it up and I always thought, why would you spend that much on a trash can! Now that we have our pup, I am so glad. He cannot open it like he can the trash cans at my parents and friends houses. Check them out.
