Can you recommend things I can do to exercise her? She has a bundle of energy at times, like this very moment. She wants to jump all over me which I'm discouraging, she is a tad nippy but gentle, and she is very vocal like she's testing her lungs. It's been less than 48 hrs since I brought her home.

I can't take her for walks because she hasn't had all her shots. I have a small backyard but she hasn't learned to fetch just yet. It's just me at home as well and no other pets.

She has lots of chew toys she plays with for about 2 minutes at a time.

BTW, the first 12 hrs were a little rough at times, but we've worked out our arrangements and she is a VERY good girl. I'm so impressed about how smart an 8 week old pup is at learning things, testing the waters, and letting me know what she wants.

It's just she has an on and off switch and very little in between. Normal puppy in other words.

And as I finish typing this she went into her crate on her own and is now asleep.

I'm in the same boat.  Charlie (11 weeks old) is a bundle of energy for about fifteen minutes at a time before he calms down and starts to nap.  But during those fifteen minutes he totally harasses our Jack Russell terrier female (11 years old), our 7-year-old special needs son.  I am thinking half-day doggie daycare a few times a week may help until he totally understands fetch.  I'm also going to stop the tug-of-war games.  He's already proved his dominance over our JRT and trying to be dominant over our son.

Nancy's puppy is still very young and has not received all of her vacs. yet.  Taking her to a very public ball field would be very unwise.  You can be sure other dogs have visited as well, and that is where the problem lies.

Thanks Everyone.

She's almost got the hang of fetch. And loves to run around the yard. I think we are doing okay. We went to our first Puppy Class last night. There were 4 dogs in the class and 2 were golden doodles! What are the odds of that? Georgia was the youngest. She was really excited about playing with other pups. I do plan on puppy socials.

She has been a surprisingly easy dog.

So far. But it's only been a week.

Hi Nancy...It is so difficult to properly exercise them before they are fully vaccinated isn't it?  We have a big backyard so we would several times a day take her out and run her around the yard.  We also have a JW Hollee Roller Ball and it is great because it is made of very soft, plyable rubber and won't break anything in the house when thrown.  We use to play for hours with that ball...still do on bad weather days...and Ellie just loves it...good luck...and most importantly enjoy this time as puppies grow so fast:)
