Growing like a weed! Will he be a giant?

Hi all,

Looking for some feedback on whether or not you can really tell a puppy's full grown size at 8-9 weeks. Cooper was middle of the pack when he was born/first few weeks and his parents are 40 and 50 lbs. However, he shot up in the last week or so and ended up being the second largest of the bunch. I took him to the vet today and he weighed in at a whopping 13 lbs (most of which I think is in his bootie). He's now 8.5 weeks and I'm comparing his weight with other dogs of friends of mine who are all now fairly large and he's definitely bigger than most of them at this age. I was predicting he'd end up around the 50 lbs mark but do you think I'm crazy? Will he be a giant? Or is it really too early to tell? Anyone out there with big baby pups who ended up slowing down?

Thanks so much for the info. I'll measure his height once he's up (don't want to wake the peacefully sleeping pup!). I'm starting to hear more cases of doodles who were big puppies and then didn't end up being overly large. Camus is adorable - looks like he and Cooper have similar coats. They look like they could be brothers :).

I took out all my vet bills for Magnet from when she was a wee baby, here are her weights...

8 wks 13.2 lbs

10 wks 17.8 lbs

13 wks 29.8 lbs

8 months 1 wk  51.8 lbs

1 yr  62 lbs

18 months 66.9 lbs

She just turned 2 Aug 2nd and haven't weighed her lately, but thinking she's still about 66 or 67 lbs.  She is  a f1 standard, her mother the golden weighed 65 lbs and father apricot poodle weighed 65 lbs as well.  I think shes pretty much done growing now.  Pretty much you just have to wait and see what happens, it's so exciting to picture what they are gonna look like when they are adults....The bigger the better in my book, theres more to hug :)

Thanks! Wow, she was a big girl too and turned out to be a perfect size (in my opinion). I am so excited to watch him grow up. I used to think I'd want my puppy to stay a puppy forever and now I really can't wait for him to mature so the adventures can begin ;).
