Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all.
Nola is now 6 months old & up until recently, she has amazed me with how fast she learns & how smart she is. (Mama bragging much? We all know these doodles are smarties!) But little miss smarty-paws is all of a sudden being a piece of work. We have been really trying to get this biting/nipping to stop because she is getting bigger but we are still struggling with it. I hold on to hope that this is a phase that will end.
Housebreaking/potty training, whatever.... Nola caught on and barked at the door to go out since she was around 4months. I felt that things were going well in this department. She would have maybe 1 (poop) accident and then go a week without one and it was just an occasional occurrence. But! Now all of a sudden she is pooping in the house & not barking at the door like usual. It isn't every time she goes #2 that she goes in the house, she does go outside too. There isn't any particular time of day it happens but there are 2 areas that this generally occurs. (1 area is the bathroom, which the door is shut majority of the time & she LITERALLY runs and slams it open with her paws) I use the Natures miracle spray when I clean up but this is continuing to be a problem. She doesn't pee in the house, I honestly do not remember the last time that happened, it just is dookie! She is "fixed" now & I am wondering if this has something to do with that, it has been around 3-4 weeks since she got her lady bits removed.
Anyone have a similar experience/advice on what to do with this chick!?

The best advice I got for accidents in the same area was to start FEEDING the dog in the very same spot and the accidents will subside. It took about a week but then it worked! GL!
So just put her food bowl in the bathroom?
Do you know what the logic is behind this tactic? Haha, I am willing to try anything but this has me curious since I will have to have her eat...by the toilet. (Yuck)
I think that this (yuck) reaction is exactly what is meant to happen.....but with the dog. Dogs do not usually potty where they eat. Worth a try.
Is she on a regular schedule? My pup and dogs are all pretty regular. I know just about when to expect a #2 from each of them. They all relieve themselves at different times (due to age and size), but their eating schedule is consistently the same.
Is she crate trained?
I can't remember what my 1 yr old doodle did at 6 months - and I know the bms taper off. Jade is a little over 3 months and she relieves herself first thing in the morning (6 am) and I wait for her to do both, then another around 7:30. She's crated for about 3 hours, goes out, comes in and eats - then about an hour or so later she will need to have another bm. Generally she doesn't have another bm until after her 4 pm feeding. Then, maybe one more before bed time.
I know the number tapers off, but it got bitterly cold this week (from mild temps last week) so I've been like "Hurry" and didn't stay out as long in the morning for numero dos. She then will eat and need to go relieve herself almost as soon as she is done. Which I'm ok with as it has eliminated one of her bms.
She is always in our line of vision. Always. She probably will be until she's a year old or so. :D Jade had one bm accident and that was when we first got her. Dh watched her swirl and drop. He said it happened so fast! But, that was before I figured out her schedule. ;)
Gracie is our one yr old doodle and she's only recently been given total free reign and I still check up on her. Usually I find her sleeping on our bed! Lol
I would say she is a "regular" schedule, I know her timing after she eats and everything. She is crate trained and she has never had an accident in her crate (knock on wood.) part of me thinks this is an"attention" thing but I just don't understand. This is not my first rodeo, I have had dogs for as long as I can remember... But of course the puppy phase becomes a blur after so long. She is fairly good about staying in the same room with us and we try to catch her when she sneaks off but she is FAST and poops FAST. I swear she knows she shouldn't do it. I just am at a loss as to why all of a sudden she is only barking at the door around 75% of the time she needs to go.

She is still very much a puppy. So many puppies are not totally reliable until six months and some a little longer. Our second doodle took longer to potty train (but his issue was peeing all the time)! Ha!  Maybe take a step back and instead of waiting for her to tell you she needs to go out, take her out every 2 hours, stay with and see what she is doing.  When she goes, praise her. I bet in a month or so, you will be posting she is no longer having these issues.  Hang in there. Puppyhood is so much fun, except for times like this!

If she's going that fast, she must be holding it for awhile and just not alerting you.

During the day, we are mostly in one part of the house and then in the evening we sit in a different part of the house. Well, Jade gets a little confused in the family room and will go to the hallway bathroom door. Then, I ask if she needs to go out - which is in a different direction. She's just confused. I'm just throwing this out there as it's something to think about. I know Gracie was not as good at alerting us and she needed to go out every 15-20 min until she was around 6 mo old. It was exhausting. When I thought we could stretch it, she would have an accident.
My advice is to try the suggestions in here and be consistent.
You didn't say her bms changed in consistency, so she's probably not sick or anything. I know it's frustrating trying to figure these pups out.
When we first got Jade, she peed in her crate even though I've read over and over that they don't. We weren't leaving her in for extended times either. So, I started feeding her in the crate and her accidents stopped - but I'm sure it was because her bladder got stronger and she trusted us to come back.
I'm not sure dogs do things to spite you. Unless, she has been scolded when she defecated sometime? If that is the case (and I'm not saying it is) she might be trying to hide it from you?
Good luck and like Linda said hang in there I'm sure it will all work out.
We don't scold her/discipline her when we find a present. We only tell her "No" sternly if we catch her midway through & then take her out. But we don't catch her often, she is in stealth mode when she does it.
I would think this would eventually come to an end & she will go back to barking at the door for #1 AND #2. I can't help but to be confused why it was going well & drops back a couple steps all of a sudden...
Have you seen any improvement this week?
I put up a babygate to block her from that hallway/bathroom and so far so good. Hopefully I am not jinxing myself by saying that. Haha
Hope that works for you!

Some dogs need to poop and/or pee more than one time when they go. Perhaps when she goes out, she really isn't done.  We had a dog once that hated wet - even dew on grass!  As a puppy he picked a spot in our dining room as his 'back up' area. I put a piece of furniture over the spot so he had no access.  He didn't chose another area, so that worked for us.
