Luci does the same thing. Always has! She is 9 months old and I still have to keep the water bowl up. And we have to grab it as SOON as she is done drinking, if we accidentally leave it down...she is soon swimming in it and gliding across the hard wood floor in a puddle of wet dog.
I'd love to be able to solve it but have yet to find anything that works. We make sure she gets water right after she eats and many times throughout the day. When she is thirsty, she RUNS towards the sink and JUMPS as high as she can AT the sink....bang. Then she runs back and stops to look at us. Then repeat as needed until she gets her water...silly girl.
Hi Kerri...
One solution would be to remove Zoey"s water bowel after every meal...along with her food bowel.
This would be a great help ...as far as Zoey wanting to "go swimming in her water bowel"! Lol...
This would also help with her potty training...which is what our trainer recommended.
I did this from the start with Sasha.
It worked beautifully...and she was potty trained very quickly with this method.
Of course...you would watch how much water she drinks at her meals...to make sure she is drinking enough.
If you are home...you could give her water later in the morning...and in the mid-aftermoon...keeping in mind that she will have to potty shortly afterward. All.depending upon how old she is.
Once she is totally potty trained and not a puppy anymore...the time frame will be totally different.
It seems that many Doodles just love the water!!
We live on a lake...and Sasha is in the waster everyday!!
Thankfully...mostly just wanting to wade in to get cooled off.
Yes...wet paws and legs...but a Very Happy Doodle!! Lol...
Wishing you the Very Best...keep us posted...
Bailey has been doing the same thingbut only ocassioanlly. Drives me nuts...Sloppy doodle face and feet everywhere LOL. She doesn't dig in it, just puts one paw in her bowl and stands there. Looks at me like "what" ? Oh well. Maybe I'll get a bowl like the one pictured to see if that helps..
Good luck! And keep a towel handy ; )
