Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I wasn't sure where to post this question, but I figure Puppy Madness was as good a place as any:)
Anyway, my husband and I have been talking about adding another Goldendoodle to our little family. And we keep going back and forth on whether or not we should.
We have a two year old Goldendoodle, Daisy, that we have had since she was 8 weeks old. She is the most perfect baby ever, and a Mommy's girl all the way:) She is super needy; she begs me to play with her and pet her all the time!! Just look at the pictures below!
Daisy loves to play with other dogs and she is EXTREMELY submissive, so I don't think having another dog in the house would be a problem that way. I am more worried about the attention. I am worried she'll be jealous of any attention that the puppy gets. I am also worried about the flip side: will she not want to cuddle with me any more if she has a playmate 24/7? I know that might be an irrational question, but I just love our cuddle time and I'm a little worried...
Part of the reason that I want to get another dog too is because we want to have a human baby in the next 1-2years, and I want Daisy to have a playmate when I am busy with the baby. I know that with a (human) baby, I won't have as much time to pay attention to her as I do now, so I was hoping that having a little sister might keep her occupied.
Do you guys have any suggestions or experiences that you can share to help us make our decision?

The downside: cost - twice as much; time needed for training; it is more difficult to take two dogs than one - if you take Daisy places. If you add in a human baby, it gets even more difficult to take a dog or dogs with you.
The plus side: more for you to love; if you want two dogs, you have time to train the new one before babies; your dogs will keep each other company as you get busier.
The obvious downside is the extra food and vet bills, but for me, the positives have FAR outweighed the negatives. Kona was such a mama's boy and very needy for attention and constant love. I adopted Maggie from a rescue group when Kona was 10 months old and it was the best thing I ever did. They keep each other company, play with each other while I'm on my laptop for work, and they both absolutely LOVE having a best friend, wrestle buddy, fetch and tug buddy, and nap buddy. And as you can see, they still love to cuddle on our laps, so they won't leave you in the dust. And they love going for walks together.
(Kona is the apricot double doodle, and Maggie is the white American Eskimo/Briard and Belgian Sheepdog mix. She was presented to us as a goldendoodle, but I had her DNA tested twice, and there is zero poodle or retriever of any kind....but such a perfect mix for Kona!)
most adorable pictures ever.. their heads look like a giant heart, how precious!
I'm rather partial to them....:-)
Love this heart made out of puppy heads! Yes, Maggie does look a lot like Nimbus, except that his ears are probably a little more red. :-)
We always have 2 dogs (or 3) and always will. They are each still plenty fun and snuggly... they are just never lonely! With my little Moxie, she is still all dog and plenty of fun. BUT she does not have the grooming and food cost of a second doodle. Adding a fun little rescue like her is cost-effective, plus I feel good about saving her! BUT I may still be up for a 3rd dog soon! Been looking into Sheepadoodles. :)
