I'm wondering if any one else's doodle does this?

When Ayla, (now 7 mo) gets into a deep sleep, she will occassionally make this noise, and her chest will heave. At first, it surprised me , as she lay sleeping in our livingroom- i thought it sounded quite sad. As if she were having a dream that made her sad.   Not really a wimper. But it can be loud enough for me to hear her from the hallway (where she is resting in her crate), if i am in the diningroom.  She does'nt make this sound when she's awake. My other pup Storm (same age) sleeps quietly.

Sometime i hope to video it & post.    :)

Yes, my Remington Bear... age 2... talks in his sleep all the time.  We most of the time wake him up when he has bad dreams.  Can't wait until you wake up in the middle of the night hearing thud thud thud... thats when Remington is having a good dream and his tail is hitting against the floor :)  SOOOOO SWEET!  Love doodles!
Rooney will be dreaming and giving out little soft "woof" noises, and his huff his chest with his feet doing a little running motion.  It is funny but I wake him too because I worry that he is having a bad dream.

This is soo sweet to read everyone's responses about this.    Yes!  It is like a sad, tired "wooof"  !     Yes, i  so worry about her sad dream.    She was VERY hand shy when we first got her & took her a while to trust & like us.

I just want to guy her when that happens, but at the same time i don't want to disturb her  :)

Thanks everyone.

Yep!  My Murph does it all the time.  I always think he is having a bad dream and I reach over and rub his tummy and he stops.
Lucca and Izzy do this too. I also rub their tummies if it feels like a bad dream.
Yes, Harpo vocalizes in his sleep also. And sometimes he runs. His feet are kicking and he is crying. Must be a good rabbit he is chasing.

All my dogs do this even the foster doodle.  Sometimes their legs will be moving like they are chasing something.    I just talk to them softly or put my hand on them and it calms them.

Sedona makes the same "woof" and "runs" - I've never thought about it being a bad dream, though.  I figure she chasing off that mean old UPS driver or running after some critter that crosses her path.  She never seems traumatized when she wakes up so I guess she's okay...  :)

Luna whines and barks in her sleep on occasion.

I think it sounds different because they don't actually open their mouth when they do it... so it's a "bark" or whine but without the added refinement of the mouth movements :p  Try to talk without opening your mouth.. it'll sound funny too!

Gavin does this all the time.  He is 20 months old.  He tends to "yip" and his chest heaves like you said.  It's funny because he barely makes any noise when he is awake!
