There have been studies done about early sterilization causing the long bones in the legs to grow for a greater length of time causing the dog to be taller, as well as cause an increase in hip dysplasia. I have a customer who breeds and shows Duck Tolling Retrievers. Her vet refused to neuter one of her males prior to 12 months because it could cause the dog to grow taller than breed standard. After she told me about this, I did some research and it seems like opinions are split.
Connor was neutered @ 13 weeks prior to my getting him. I had to sign an agreement w/Simon's breeder saying I would wait until a year to neuter him; however, at 7 months I called and asked permission to have him neutered and she approved it. Upon proof of neuter, I did receive his registration papers. :-)
Its nice that you stood by what you believe in to be right and i was going to put up a bit of a fight with the breeder at first NOT to do it !! I said i would sign any paper but has you said their are so many split opinions I have read the stuff about bone structure and that did scare me at first but I have made up my mind and i am going to let the breeder go ahead with it now... My husband still doesnt agree but I had to make a choice so lets hope that my Harvey is ok with it , thanks for your comments .
Hi Lynda thanks for you coments I have made up my mind now to let the breeder go ahead and do it= neuter ... the pup will be 7 weeks I believe when he gets it done he will be a family pet and not for showing or breeding so hopefully he will be fine I think we have to gather all the information we can with these things I have had to make a choice so I have decided to let the breeder do what she has to .. I am sure Harvey will be fine . thanks again. Frances.
