thanks for this advise I read an article that was moore or less sayng the same but after reading all the advise on the site I am going to let the breeder do it and I am not going to stress over it.... thanks for taking the time to comment .Frances .
Our breeder let us choose if we wanted to spay her later or she could do it then.  We talked to the vet about it and he told us it wasn't so good for her, so we got her spayed later.
Thanks for your comment I have decided to let the breeder go ahead  after reading all the comments on this site I no longer feel uncomfortable with it Thanks anyway ..

There have been studies done about early sterilization causing the long bones in the legs to grow for a greater length of time causing the dog to be taller, as well as cause an increase in hip dysplasia. I have a customer who breeds and shows Duck Tolling Retrievers. Her vet refused to neuter one of her males prior to 12 months because it could cause the dog to grow taller than breed standard. After she told me about this, I did some research and it seems like opinions are split.

Connor was neutered @ 13 weeks prior to my getting him. I had to sign an agreement w/Simon's breeder saying I would wait until a year to neuter him; however, at 7 months I called and asked permission to have him neutered and she approved it. Upon proof of neuter, I did receive his registration papers. :-)

This is the first time I have heard about the legs being longer in dogs with early sterilization, but my 5-yr-old labradoodle is very tall (30 inches) and he was neutered early.  In fact, I had heard that early sterilization could cause growth to be stunted, and I have said that it was good Groucho Too was neutered early because I sure wouldn't want him to be taller.

Its nice that you stood by what you believe in to be right and i was going to put up a bit of a fight with the breeder at first NOT to do it !!   I said i would sign any paper but has you said their are so many split opinions  I have read the stuff about bone structure and that did scare me at first but I have made up my mind and i am going to let the breeder go ahead with it now... My husband still doesnt agree but I had to make a choice so lets hope that my Harvey is ok with it , thanks for your comments .

I know just what you mean.  I have my third doodle now and the last two have been neutered before they left the breeders.  The first, however, came intact, and the breeder told me that I should get him neutered at about 3-5 months and could not get his papers until after he had a neuter certificate from a vetinarian.  That was fine with me and I got him neutered at the appropriate time.  If your pup is neutered, of course you cannot breed him or show him, but some people say that early neutering can affect their bones and early neutered dogs should not do agility.  You could tell the breeder that you are not interested in early neutering, but it may already be done.  Some breeders have the pups neutered or spayed by 5 weeks.

Hi Lynda thanks for you coments I have made up my mind now to let the breeder go ahead and do it= neuter ... the pup will be 7 weeks I believe when he gets it done he will be a family pet and not for showing or breeding so hopefully he will be fine I think we have to gather all the information we can with these things I have had to make a choice so I have decided to let the breeder do what she has to .. I am sure Harvey will be fine . thanks again. Frances.

Good for you Frances! Now you will be able to help the next owner who may have a dilemma over this issue.
