Hang in there! Don't give in! I PROMISE it gets better! Sophie LOVES her crate now. She hangs out in it all the time.

Not too worry, it doesn't last long. We pulled Enzo's crate next to my side of the bed. I could dangle my hand down next to the door and let her know I was close by. She'd calm down within minutes.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww, our Sophie sounded like a little chicken 'bawk, bawk, bawk' sound the first night.  I stayed down on the sofa next to her crate for three nights in a row and didn't get any sleep.  Our breeder told us that we were spoiling her and that we needed to go to bed and just let her cry.  Ah, it broke our heart - but we did - and by the 4th night, she was good as gold.

I don't know how many of you do this but, Covering the crate with a dark sheet or blanket will also help them. Makes it more like a little den and signals that it is bedtime.

LOL...I tried this once with Enz when she was very little. She FREAKED! Hated the idea and in no uncertain terms let me know!

I set Addie's crate up in my sunroom. The first night, I slept on a loveseat next to the crate. The second night, I slept on the couch in the adjoining LR. The third night, I tried to sleep in my bed through the crying. The fourth night, I slept in my bed; the crying lasted 20 minutes.

We are supposed to take them to potty in the middle of the night, right? How many nights does that last? Thx!

It depends on the pup, may have to take them out several times at first but that slows down over the first couple weeks. Limiting water intake in the evings will help but it does take a while, some pups bladder muscles develop faster than others. Always best to just take them out if you hear them start whimpering in the night so they don't start peeing in the crate. Good luck!

We took Boomer out EVERY single time he barked/whimpered. He quickly learned that if he whimpered/barked, he would be taken outside to the spot we designated as his pee spot. Since he was tired, he finally decided after the first few days that it'd be better not to bark.

It took about five days before he didn't bark, and we would take him out twice a night to pee. This continued for another two weeks until we learned that most of his siblings were going the entire night by that point, so we tried and voila! Overnight success. And no barking.
