OK, I need some advice.  My Smudge is a 14 month f2 doodle.  She was one of the easiest puppies to raise.  She never chewed, very laid back, total lover bug.  She is crate trained and a few times a week we leave her out at nighttime and she does fine. She is crated when we leave which is usually only a couple hrs at a time.  She is low key in the house.  Her one and only drawback is, she is a paper shredder.  The only time she does it, is when we go outside, we can't even go to the mailbox and back without my little paper shredder finding paper somewhere and shredding in little bitty pieces, EVERYWHERE. Today I was outside literally not 5 minutes and came in, OMG, she had shredded several magazines the local newspaper, and a book.  Literally you couldn't see the floor at all.  She doesn't chew anything else up, never destroyed anything of value, only paper.  Quite a while ago someone posted an article on "Poodles and paper".  I laughed through that whole article thinking "yep, that my Smudge" lol  In that article they claimed that it is a "poodle thing" and has nothing to do with separation anxiety or anything, it's just  the poodles "artistic ways" particularly the standard poodles are famous for this form of "art".

Anybody else out there happen to have a paper shredder?? I need some advice because I can't correct something I can't catch her doing...Looks like im gonna have to take her outside with me every time or put her in her crate.  I have high hopes of someday letting her have free roam of the house...but it'll be a long time before I trust her. My other doodle was a dream to raise, never crated, never chewed, had full run of the house while I worked 9 hrs a day.  Needless to say I was lucky with her.  Now someone is here almost all the time, so Smudge doesn't spend much time in her crate really at all and is an angel 99.99999% of the time.   Do u guyz think she may grow out of this?? I welcome any and all suggestions anyone has lol

I love Smudge's name! Wish I had thought of it four years ago. I don't have a paper shredder. Owen just destroys anything and everything he can. Kona destroys nothing.
Thanx Bonnie, we were gonna name her Pudge, but, since shes jet blk we decided on Smudge...lol  My other doodle was stuck on me like glue from day 1, so I named her Magnet ;)
LOL...I don't mean to laugh but it amazes me how they can find that one thing:) Try setting her up. Spray a couple newspapers and magazines with bitter apple and leave the room. Obviously don't let her see you spraying them:) But pretend you are leaving to get your mail and see what she does. Hopefully she doesn't like the taste of the bitter apple. We did this with our Golden Retriever who was a napkin thief!! She never touched a napkin again.
Winston is 5 mos old. The only thing he is a perfectionist at is shredding paper. It is like an ingrown ability that he has perfected out of no where. He's never been taught , encouraged, etc, but OMG, if he comes across a piece of paper, it is Armageddon! For some reason it appears to be pretty normal for golden doodles. I've read that they are like sponges, always watching what we do, and are job oriented. I wonder if they see us interact with paper so much, then think that they are helping us, when they come across some? Just a thought. My husband laughs and says "why did we ever need a shredder".!
Haha Angel...I thought that way of thinking!!!!
So funny you said that! I am so diligent about cleaning out pockets before washing clothes, I'll be darned if Winston doesn't find Kleenex in clothes pockets every day! If only there wasn't a good paying job for a
Kleenex finder:-)
Sorry, but your post had me LOL!  Your answer to your question is ...OH YEAH! I would say 90% of us have doodles who are part "shredder".  There have been MANY posts in the forum on this.  I bet if you search, you will find many!  and if you google the words Paper shredder most of our doodles would come up - lol.  Yes!  They DO outgrow this, but... just when you think they have stopped, they may try it again - just to keep you on your toes!  This too shall pass!  Until then... watch your pockets for tissues as they are GREAT at finding the ones hiding in your pockets, the garbage and counters.  This actually goes for any type of paper!  If you want to try and stop this you can make a loud noise such as banging pot covers together when you see her grab for a paper, but soon this too will be behind you.
Oh boy Shelly, about 6 months ago, I had bought a case of kleenex tissues, 12 boxes.  Had them stashed away, and sure enough she found them within days, and tore up and shredded every single tissue into ittsy bittsy tiny pieces ALL OVER THE HOUSE...It was about ankle deep all the way through. Needless to say, it took a few hrs to clean it up, but I kept saying over and over "good thing ur so damn cute" lol  She did all that within about 30 minutes while I was in the back yard. ;)
That is A.MAZ.ING!!!
I think you should just rent him out as a paper shredder:)  "New service in town. Smudge the Shredder." Paper Shredder and Exerciser in one. No need to buy a shredder .. Smudge will do it for you in less time and you don't have to worry if people can piece it together when he is through. Do your daily exercise when the job is complete, bend down pick up, bend down pick up." My kids were like that..Jill perfect child.. Sean not so much.

lol Mimi, that may be a good idea, she is does a better job than any shredder I've ever used lol

OMD...I am SO sorry but I just had to laugh.  I am sure it isn't funny when you are on the ankle-deep side of shredded paper, but it certainly is hilarious.  I have no suggestions other than please leave another case of tissue paper where Smudge can get it, along with a video camera set up to record.  I am pretty sure you could have an #1 rated YouTube video!

All kidding aside, Rua, being an F1B is 3/4's poodle, and I think she has just a slight paper "issue".  Nothing like Smudge, but she will swipe a magazine or newspaper off a table or paper out of my desk trash and go to town.  I'll catch her, which pieces still stuff in her fur, and she'll look at me like "What, I didn't do this, PuffDog (the cat) did".  You do just have to laugh.

I do like the ideas to rent her out as a shredding service.
