My golden doodle is 6 mos and still doesn't use the bells or signal to us at all that he needs to go out. We use the crate or keep him in a confined area and take him out every 2 hours. He has accidents maybe 1-2x/week somewhere else in the house, pee only. Is there anything else I should be doing? Safe to assume he will get it at some point? Thx!!

I think it is important that you do a full check up to see if there are any medical concerns.....Also, is he being scolded for peeing in the house? He will only learn to do it outside when HE is always praised for doing it outside.....At 6 months, he is still a puppy, so every time he goes pee he should be praised a lot.....Also....if he is medically fine...he should be able to hold it for longer than 2 hours ( exception: lots of chewing or playing will cause them to pee more).....I am sure others will have other great advice...Best of luck....Also....my dog only uses a signal subtely....she will go towards the door and give us puppy dog eyes so we now KNOW that that is her sign to us.....We have tried the bell but it is not working so now it is looking for her at back door with puppy dog eyes :) need to watch for subtle hints....

We have the same exact issue in that our dog gives no signal at all.  She did ring the bell for a brief period, then stopped.  She has not peed in the house for months except once and that was in an odd circumstance.  The issue we are having is that she occasionally develops a reaction to something, has very frequent and loose stools and cannot or will not seem to make it outside.  She has identified one place in our house to use.  Fortunately it is on the tile not the carpet.  During these times she will even go in her crate.  YUCK.  After the last episode she even went in her indoor spot once after her stools had returned to being totally normal.  The rest of the time she is going outside 100% of the time but I feel like we are trained not her in some ways.  She goes to daycare and never has an accident there.  The only times she is having accidents with us generally are when she has some kind of gastrointestinal upset.  However, we feel like if she was signaling us that would not be happening.  I am wondering if I need to go back to tethering her until she starts ringing the bell again?

Is there a certain spot he's peeing in? You'll want to use a good enzymatic cleaner if so. I've also heard that vinegar/water mix and then baking soda after it dries also helps.

Is he playing and then peeing? Gracie surprised us once a few months ago, she was playing ball in the house and then stopped and peed. She was about 9 mo at the time.
