We have a four month old golden doodle Bailey. Just when we thought she was potty trained she started having accidents again. We took her to the vet and found out she has a UTI. She has been on an antibiotic for over a week but it seems like she is even having more accidents. We have the potty bells on the door. She will go sit by they door but not ring them until we ask her what she needs to do and then she rings them. If she goes in the other room and we don't follow her immediately she will pee by the door. She has no accident during the day or in her crate. It is always in the evening about 7 pm when she starts pacing for about two hours and that is when she has her accidents. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

At 4 months, she is still very young and potty training should still be consistent, for this very reason. If she is "pacing for 2 hrs" she is telling you she needs out. Why wouldn't you bring her out?
Even now, Enzo is 9 months, and if I think she hasn't been out on awhile, wether she rings her bells or not, I take her out.
we let her out constantly...she just paces back and forth for those two hours. For example, tonight we had her out every half hour and she still managed to have three accidents . She never does this during the dAy Maybe I wasn't explaining myself well but we take her out all the time. When we have just had her out and then she goes into the other room we are just not expecting her to have to go again 15 minutes later.
Do you let her out or bring her out? At this age, she can not distinguish being let out to potty or out to play. Secondly, maybe your not staying out with her long enough? I know, at this age, Enz always went twice! Took me a few times to realize this, after she'd come in and potty again in the house, after 10 minutes. Just some suggestions.
We go out with her and always say do you want to go potty, have her ring the bell and then reward her with a treat when she goes. Thanks for your suggestions...appreciate it....potty training can be so frustrating.
I did not finish reading it yet but have you been giving a probiotic along with the antibiotic and which antibiotic are you giving?
It is amoxicillin. We are not giving her a probiotic.
I would give her a probiotic a general rule of thumb is when you have an antibiotic you want to give them a probiotic. For now you can just give plain nonfat yogurt but make sure it is two hours at least apart from the antibiotic! Does not have anything to do with potty training issues but I wanted to throw that in!
Thank you for this information.
Lucy is 3 1/2 month old. I have the potty bells too. She doesn't do in the crate. She does one accident in between 11 to 2pm and other is between 6 to 8 pm. She goes wild like hyper, but she doesn't tell me. I don't get it. When she goes outside do her thing she knows she getting her treats.
Malenie: puppies are like little kids. They usually pay no attention to the urge to pee until it is too late. This changes with age and maturity. If you know she has accidents between certain hours, then I would get her out during that particular time. Don't wait for her to give you a sign./ ring the bells.
Thank you Rosemary. I am working on it. I only has her 3 weeks. Again, thanks. Have a good weekend. :)
You are very welcome. Potty training is probably one of the most frustrating for puppy owners. Consistency and patience! And just remember, they all finally get it...just some are quicker than others.
Rule of thumb is when a puppy goes 30 days without an accident, they can be considered housebroken. Can not tell you how many times we had to reset the clock! ;)
