Oh Auggie, Auggie auggie, what is going on? Auggie has always chewed his paw and it got really bad a couple of weeks ago and he actually chewed himself a couple of hot spots. In to the Vet we go and of course it is allergies but is it food or is it environmental? I think it is environmental because it got much worse after a day outside at the lake.
But we started with his food. We took him off puppy food and switched to a seafood kibble. Stopped all extra protein like added steak and bully sticks. He is on antibiotics and was on pain pills. He has also been on Benedryl. His leg was bandaged and he is wearing the cone of shame lol
Bandage came off cone stayed on so the wounds could dry in the air. He hasn't even tried to mess with his leg until tonight. Now he is trying to work around the cone to lick his leg. Maybe because it is healing and itchy? I am so bummed thinking this may not be the end of the leg chewing.
Anyone else have a dog with leg chewing allergies?

Is sweet Auggie's food grain free? That is the only suggestion I have. Sorry you have this. I know our doodles can get a little high maintenance!
Yes, he has always been on grain free food. TOTW Bison puppy. Last week at 10 months the Vet suggested we switch to a seafood kibble with lower protein. Plus I was also giving him raw meat at dinner and he was always working on a bully stick. Hopefully the food change helps. if it is environmental that will take a little more detective work lol

IT is NOT the protein and it is unlikely that it is any food allergy at all because Auggie is so young. Wipe him off each time he comes in. There are topical medicines that can help with the itching hot spots.
He has the cone on and even with it he has chewed another sore on the tip of his paw. I am so frustrated. I am not sure where to go from here.
Talk to the vet and let him know what you are doing isn't working. My vet did not want to give Sparky a shot of steroids for his itches but he did and it really helped him get over it. Sparky keeps wet from the pool, so I had to change some habits as well, but the shot worked. Of course your vet will know if he can have that as a puppy.
Thank you all so much for all the great input. I am pretty sure what ever is causing the chewing is environmental because he first got really in the spring and now after we went hiking at the lake. I am also not sure that his days at the doggy day care may also be a culprit.
His wounds look all healed up.. I have a salve to put on them and I can't hardly find where they were now. and I still have the cone on because I think the wounds healing are itchy and he still wants to lick at them.
I guess it will be a little detective work to see what is the culprit, it may even be grass. His portion of the yard is all pavers, rocks and a patch of artificial lawn so no plants or anything so I think his yard area is safe but doggy day care , I don't know.
