Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I have been giving my 4 month old Golden Doodle cow ears but I'm wanting something that lasts longer. He loves his cow ears and I was wonder if anyone uses raw hides, like the rolled up ones. My mom has always told me that they aren't good from them but to me they seem like the same thing.
I was wondering what others are giving their pups.

Give him an antler. Rawhide and all that can break off. Antlers essentially erode down but not for a few months.
Listen to your mom. I think the biggest risk is the fact they can cause a blockage. A blockage can result in a big vet bill. Not to mention the pain of suffering of your dog. Annabelle loved the odor free bully sticks, while they may not last as long as a raw hide at least they are safer and digestible. The rawhides have also been known to break teeth.
Lincoln never liked the antlers. Most of the treats do not last long if they can eat them and if they are chewers!
Nylabones has one that looks like a rawhide bone in different sizes. they cannot eat it but just chew, Just watch to make sure no pieces are coming off.
Lincoln like ice cubes. We also get marrow bones from the meat section at the grocery store, some are big but sometimes they cut them into smaller pieces. They can eat the marrow and then fill with plain yogurt or peanut butter (can freeze too) and some kibble or treats mixed in.
Rawhide is NOT good for dogs. It doesn't digest.
I don't give rawhide or antlers. I gave my puppy bully sticks. The antlers splinter and I worry about them getting stuck.
I watched this a few weeks back when we first adopted Mo; we found it useful.

After talking with our breeder, we went with Bully sticks from free range, hormone/anti-biotic free local source. We buy the biggest we can find, and then saw them up into smaller sticks. Both of our dogs love them and they are great for when our puppy Mo feels the need to chew.
