Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello. I know this has been addressed before and I've read a lot of the other posts about this subject... but thought I'd ask again: How do I get my 9 week old to sleep through the night? Specifically, I'd like to move him out of my room but not sure if I should or not since he still needs to go out once per night. He's in a small crate right next to my bed right now.
Last week he slept for 4 hours straight- which was wonderful. I was looking forward for that to continue and improve. But this past weekend was the opposite! He whined/yelped to get out every 2 hours. I tried to ignore the loud whining, thinking he'd go back to sleep but it just intensified and turned into yelping/barking. SO, I got him out to go potty before he woke everyone up.
A couple times while I was putting on my socks to take him out he curled up in my lap and fell back to sleep!!! I was pretty irritated with that and made him go out anyway. Each time he did go pee but I'm sure he could've held it.
I was wondering if his crate may be too small? I'm borrowing my friend's right now because I'm not sure how big he will get. He's in small crate that belongs to a 10 lb chihuahua. He can sit and stretch out, but it's going to be too tight soon.
I take away his water around 7:30 pm and his last time out to pee is at midnight.
I just want him to sleep from midnight to 6am. Any suggestions?

That's amazing that he pushed the crate while in it! One determined dog, huh? Sorry- I have no advice but you have my sympathy! Hopefully it's a phase that'll pass soon...?
ugh the runs are the worst!! Esp for us while potty training...yuck. We had issues with that at first when I had her on Merrick grain free but switched to Blue Buffalo and is much better now, but it took over 3 weeks. I'd like to switch her to Orijen b/c of better reviews here (I have a bag waiting but am scared). I wish I could help with the huger problem, but my pup only weighs about 7 lbs and still only eats a couple kibbles at a time, like a little old lady :)
Victory!! Miracle!! SOOO HAPPY!!
I made sure 8.5 week old, Whidbey got lots of exercise yesterday- and didn't let her nap a lot.
I then took her upstairs at 10:00, put her in her crate, talked to her for a couple minutes telling her to "go to sleep!" "Be good girl."
Walked away.. and lo and behold for the first time.. NOT ONE PEEP! No whining, no barking, no scratching at the side or the door.
She laid down in her bed, was chewing on a few toys in there, while I was getting ready for bed. I crawled into bed- still not a peep. I looked in, and she actually was laying down with her eyes closed falling asleep!!
SHE SLEPT through the night!
She didn't wake up till 5AM!! She slept 7 hours straight!!
Thanks to ALL OF YOU for your words of advice!! It does get better!!!!!
I'm so happy for you!!! I know exactly how that feels :) Keep it up Whidbey!!!
Our Olive started out the same, getting up get old fast but hang in there. She now sleeps until six, at that time we take her out to pee or poop, then immediately bring her in without talking at all. We put a little treat in her soft bed, left open and she goes right back to sleep until eight. That is when I get up. :) She started doing this at about 12-13 weeks so maybe soon your pup will be sleeping better. We don't give her water after eight now. Seems to work unless we feed her too late in the evening she will whine and we take her out, seldom does this happen. Good luck, it is only a few weeks and I bet he will sleep though the night soon.
