I am bringing home a puppy in August and have been learning so, so much from all you kind folks here on DK. This is such a wealth of information, I appreciate it so much!
When my puppy comes home I'll be taking 2 weeks off from work (not just because of the puppy, but also as a reward for having completed my masters degree!!). Of course, I will eventually be going back to work and am wondering what the best way is to help Puppy transition into spending time alone. I'm assuming this something I should work on slowly over the 2 weeks that I am home? Any thoughts or experiences? Would love to hear from you.
And... here is a photo update on the little one (not sure which will be mine):

I'm going to go back to work for the first month at just 24hrs a week, so I'm hoping to break it up into smaller chunks (4-5 hrs), and if I have to have a long day for some reason, I'm thankful to have family nearby who would love a puppy day! :)
I think I read that the puppy can hold it for 1 hr for each month of their age? Does that seem to be accurate in your experience?
Jen, I heard 1 hr + 1 hr for every month. So a 2 month old puppy should be able to hold it 3 hours. That being said, Rua was sleeping through the night at 2 months old. During the day, when they are up, eating, drinking and playing, it turns into a whole different story.
Even though Rua is now over 11 months, I don't leave her at home (in a crate) for more than 5 or so hours. We leave the house at 7:30 and DH usually comes home at 12:30 or so.
