What size to expect when grown

I am new here and my firned who is a member told me their is a formula to help determine what size Jax might be when he is grown and I was wondering if anyone could share it with me. Jax was at the vet today and weighed 12.9 pounds and he is 12 weeks old. Thanks, Kathy

I was told by my vet that a pretty good estimate would be to double their weight at 16 weeks to get their adult size. Not sure if this is right or not? But Chewie is supposed to be anywhere from 35 - 50 lbs. At 16 weeks he was almost 20 lbs. So that would calculate out.

My Chewie is a miniture estimated by his breeder to grow to 25 - 30 lbs. He is 8 months today and has stayed at about the same weight for a couple months now...22-23 lbs. He was 17 lbs at 16 weeks, so it doesn't look like the doubling formula is going to hold true in his case. I was concerned he stopped gaining so young, but he is not thin at all. I've heard the minis stop growing much younger.

As a comparison to your Jax, Chewie was 12.2 lb at 12 weeks. Is Jax a mini?

Peri and Chewie have grown at a similar rate and are the same size right now. The 2x + 10 pounds does not hold true in our case (for the minis).

I think Jax is a mini/medium? I believe Peri was 9.5 pounds at 12 weeks (she is now 22-23ish), so your Jax will probably be in the 25-30lb range (just off the top of my head - I am NO expert!!!).

Guinness was 11 pounds at 16 weeks and is now 16 pounds at 10 months, so the doubling formula didn't quite work for him either. He is also a mini.

My Toby defied the growth charts - he was 5 pounds at 8 weeks, 10 pounds at 12 weeks, 20 pounds at 16 weeks, and is now 70 pounds! He is bigger than both his mom and dad. I guess you can't know for sure, unless you factor in all future generations in your pup's line.

Thanks, I will be curious to seem if this formula works out for us. I am thinking he will get around 55 to 60 pounds and he is 12.9 at 12 weeks. His parents were 55 to 65 pounds and he was the smallest male in a litter of 10.

My Brewster was 36.6 lbs at 16 weeks and is now pushing 80 at 8.5 months old. The 2x+10 formula probably won't work in his case. As of now, he's way bigger than his poodle dad (50 lbs) and about as big (tall) and possibly heavier than his half and half mom, with lots of growing left to do.

I would guess that the formula is a good place to start, but don't count on it being too accurate! :)
