My puppy started just staring at me when I would ask him to come outside with me so he can "potty".  Now if he doesn't want to go he is actually sitting and/or laying down.  If I try to go get him (calmly and slowly approach him) he will try to run away.  This is not all of the time, but at least once or twice a day.

This has gradually spilled over to him going into my bedroom.  We both sleep in there at night.  If I let him go in there with me during the day I CANNOT get him to leave.  He just sits or lays down and stares at me.  This happens every time we go in there and it is not bedtime.  Any suggestions?

Yes, he does know what come means and I am saying it in a happy, even high pitched voice, and even kneeling down to his level.  Sometimes I even sit on the floor to see if he will come to me so I can pick him up instead of having to go get him and carry him out.  That doesn't work either.

puppy parenthood is not easy is it:) I call Lilly and give her a littfle bit of a treat and then scoop her up.. she has to sit for a treat. I think your puppy is larger, so I would show him the treat so he can smell it and say come and lead him out..
I would simply lift him up in your arms and take him out.  I taught Riley the touch game using a clicker, now when I saythe word'touch' wherever he is he comes running to touch his nose to my fingers.  Check out the Kikopup videos on youtube. It's really easy to do and all you need is a clicker and some treats.  Watch them a few times because it's all to do with timing. You click and treat any behaviour you want to reinforce and after a while introduce the word.  Tiny pieces of chicken are good and safe.
Thank you for the ideas.  I will definitely try these!
Teddy went through a phase where he was being stubborn like this. He figured out that I wouldn't pull him down the stairs, so when it was time to go downstairs for bed, he would lie at the top and refuse to budge. Finally, I started very gently nudging him down the first step and he started moving. He stopped this behavior because he realized I can always get him to move. I would try putting a leash on your puppy when you go in the bedroom or before you are ready to go outside, and if he refuses to move, stand him up and pull him. Our trainer has also suggested having him on a long line in the house, so that if he refuses to come you can tug him toward you. We haven't tried this yet though.
