I have a deep desire for providing Joey with the best and that includes food. She is a healthy 9 month old with no allergies, etc so feeding her good quality food has nothing to do with allergies, digestion issues, etc but just wanting to give her the best.

We have tried Stella and Chewy's, Honest Kitchen, investigated Darwin, and now testing out Primal. In terms of kibble, we've tried Orijen which was too rich for her and Acana which worked very well with her. The reason we are trying is because I want to find the best value (cost effectiveness) for her diet. But this has made me very confused and now I'm wondering what really is the difference in all these foods? Are some superior than others or once you get to this category of dog food, does it not really matter and it's just a personal choice?

I wondering which brands amongst the prepackaged kinds are better? Or are you saying that you guys don't feed prepackaged raw like darwin or primal or stella and chewy's or honest kitchen?

I do feed the Honest Kitchen, and my guys have done well on it.  I supplement with home cooked proteins...usually chicken or fish.

I have fed pre-packaged raw - for convenience and because i got alot of it for free from work! i have tried many different brands, and usually the more expensive it is, the less Cooper likes it. Cooper is currently eating kibble as we are living with my inlaws for a while and they dont like the idea of raw. But when we get our own place we will be feeding our own raw - meat bones and organs from the butcher

Chewie's on prey model raw diet since I got him a year ago.

I buy the meat in bulk and split it into daily meals by myself.

Here's 15kg (33lbs) of raw meat, meat with bone and offal which is around 1 months supply for Chewie.

I then put it into daily meals (quart size zip lock bags) and put it into the freezer.

I think it's cheaper this way and you know that it's not enhanced.

Ozzie is a raw food eater and we use several approaches.  Most of the time he eats a homemade ground chicken mix that consists of whole ground chicken, livers, gizzards, hearts and some veggies (kale, apple, spinach, carrot, whatever).  I have a Tassin meat grinder that I use for the chicken, but it's not powerful enough to grind beef or pork bones.  He gets the ground meat for breakfast and then a raw meaty bone meal for dinner (pork or beef rib, lamb chop, sometimes lamb shank, chicken back, turkey neck).  Food is supplemented with "Missing Link" and Sold Gold sea kelp.  He also gets 2 salmon oil capsules and 1 vet E capsule daily.  I shop the "clearance" meat section at my Safeway and always pick up something that I can use.    Sometimes we do a commercial raw food.  Our favorite is called "Small Batch" and you can google to find a store near you.  Primal has a lot of veggies that may be off-putting for some dogs.  There is also an outfit called "Feed This".  They will deliver a custom diet to your home.  I liked using their service, but decided I could do it on my own more economically.  Good luck.  With all the kibble recalls, home cooking or raw is the only safe way to feed your doggie, IMO.
