Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Greetings

I joined this group because I believe in raw feeding ~ we have 2 labradoodles
and 1 sphynx cat.

The cat is feeding a raw diet and is doing great he is eating course ground
rabbit & chicken (bones, organs and meat)along with salmon oil and taurine.

The problem is with converting our doodles my husband does not want to take away
their daily kibble we use Orijen kibble which is a good kibble (but still a
kibble) so we have compromised this is what we are feeding our doodles...

Mornings: course ground chicken or rabbit. Salmon oil on their food 1 or 2x a
week and a couple of organic fresh eggs per week. They also love fresh
sardines, chicken hearts, chicken liver, chicken feet and fresh green tripe
(ground).

Evening: Orijen kibble

Do you think giving them the kibble in the evening is an OK compromise until we
can switch them to a total raw diet? They are very healthy, active & happy
doodles. We do travel and trying to find someone willing to feed a total raw diet is difficult so if we can keep them on part kibble then when we are gone it is easier on the pet sitter.

Cheers!

Hi Lynn,

Good for you for trying your best to feed your pets in a healthy way!! Might I suggest a way to compromise during transition?

What if you feed them their raw meat twice a day, then offer the kibble right afterwards. Assuming you are feeding them enough, and they are not leaving the meal hungry, chances are they will choose to forego the kibble in anticipation of the next meat meal offered. Offering them only kibble in the evening doesn't give them the choice because by that point they are likely quite hungry.

I can relate to the sitter issue well. Our last sitter for a 2 week period in the summertime was happy to feed the dogs raw meat, but she didn't think to take out the garbage with all the bags from the raw meat in them... ugh! what a stink when we got home!!

Hi Lynn:

Our labradoodle Sadie is now five years old.We have been feeding a Raw and kibble diet since day one.She gets her Orijen in the morning and then has chicken backs for dinner. We have never had any problems and she is healthy as a horse.Of course she has fruit and veg ad lib as well as her liver treats.

It certainly helps with the cost and travelling.

I have often fed kibble in the morning raw at night, or kibble on work days, raw on days off. I think its fine!
