I am not really sure about the cuddling with shorter hair vs longer.  Buddy likes to cuddle with us sometimes and other times he just likes being by himself.  One thing I will say, even with a short cut don't forget about his ears and tail.  I did not brush Buddy every day and his tail got really matted so I ended up having to cut a lot of that hair off.  And I notice sometimes he gets matts on his ear hair.  So be sure to brush those everyday or every day or so (shouldn't take too long).  :)

Porter spends less time on the cool floors when his hair is short, most definitely, but he still is not a hugger or a lap sitter.

He's a five am back-to-back spooner and a head on the arm/leg kind of guy.  Once, just once, a few weeks ago did he try to get in an armchair with me.  It was not comfy and he smooshed me and made me think, "watch out what you wish for..."

I know of 5 goldendoodles who are kept with their hair relatively short most of the time.  I don't know of any correlation to cuddling. 3 are cuddlers, 1 is a lay at your feet-er, and 1 is a head on your lap-er :-)  They seem to have this personality regardless of the length of their hair.
It certainly is more true with Daisy, she never ever got on the bed...she's been on the bed with us several times in the past week since her shave. I think she is more tactile now....can actually feel the touch.
