After checking out the "What to look for in a Breeder" article, you could attend a romp to see doodles in person. You would meet owners and perhaps get some local breeder recommendations.
Apparently folks aren't supposed to post here with their rec's so if you want to share one with me please let me know that you do on this forum and friend request me and then you can share your breeder rec via private message.
Here is the direct link to the article: http://www.doodlekisses.com/notes/What_To_Look_for_In_a_Breeder -- good info by which to help you choose your breeder. AND at the end of the article there are lists that you will find helpful in your search (lists of breeders) including a link to our Owner Recommended Breeders group where happy buyers have listed their breeder.
Thanks everyone. I've been researching breeders for ages and ages it seems and we finally settled on one last night. We actually had another great breeder but the dam we wanted hasn't gone in to heat (her cycle was interrupted and hasn't returned for weeks) and I am so ready for a puppy that the indeterminate waiting is killing me hence the renewed search. We settled on a great breeder in Illinois last night and am sending off the deposit right now for a confirmed pregnant dam. Everything just fell into place, all the references checked out, great genetic screening, great temperaments in the parents, in home whelping and puppy care, right size, right parents, even colors we were hoping for. It was meant to be and our new puppy will be coming home in June :)
