Anyone interested in a doodle grooming workshop with Wanda Klomp? She's a groomer in the Netherlands who specializes in doodles and might be willing to hold a SoCal workshop.

Hello Helga,

I just went to Wanda's page...and her grooming looks fantastic!  I would definitely be interested but that's a long way for her to come...she mentions the UK but not the U.S.  Please let us know if you have any luck.  Thanks.  Sylvie

She seemed interested if there are enough participants.

Helga....I read her DoodleKisses page and I didn't see her mention the US.  Only the UK.  Did you write to you in another area about Southern California?

I haven't groomed sassy but once, her hair doesn't grow, but I would definitely be interested too, always room to learn for down the road!

Seriously?  Wow!  That's cool that her hair is genetically coded to be just a certain length.  That is more like a shedding dog.  Does Sassy shed?  I think that Maggie's hair is "coded" to be about 5 inches long and then stop.  When she arrived, it was short due to them cutting lots off from the matting.  It took several months to get full and long, and then it seemed to stop growing at about 5 inches long.  (I LOVE that about her)

She was cut at six months or should I say shaved down to the skin! I was not a happy camper! It's been two years and the only thing I need to trim is her beard. No, she doesn't shed. Shoulders forward and hips back she is the softer hair but whatever that is in the middle isn't very pretty or soft? I brush her or use the furminator maybe once a month and only get about a handful of hair. Josie on the other hand sheds horribly, I have hair on my chair at work from her? Hearing the cost and horror stories of grooming, it's not so bad after all. I only wish she had that beautiful thick doodle tail. Sassys paw pal Fazzy from Washington has the prettiest, softest, bushiest tail I've ever seen, we were jipped I tell ya! Lol
She has a Facebook page called Doodle Comforts. That's where she had that UK post. I replied to it saying that I'd like a SoCal workshop. She said she'd love to do it. She was in SoCal last year and would love to come back.

Sounds fab to me! Keep me posted.

thanks!!!

What's the scoop? Would we need our own tools or does she supply? How much will it cost? Thanks!!!

I'd be interested.  Poor Kona is tired of telling the groomer over and over what NOT to cut, but he still got a little traumatized again this week.

The photo I gave them to use as a guide for how I wanted him to look:

And this is the puppy I picked up instead:

The top of his head is poodle and his nose is Schnauzer.  Poor little Kona (I know...it'll grow out).

Hmmm. Interesting. Does his coat grow really long? Have you tried letting it grow out? I read in my Goldendoodle book that their coat actually doesn't keep growing forever. It stops at around 10". The book is called "Almost Everything You Need to Know About Your Goldendoodle" by Diane Klumb.

I want to try and never have Nimbus' coat clipped. We'll see if I can keep up.

I was hoping to try the same thing, Helga.  I LOVE Kona's coat really long.  And it was really easy to comb and brush with zero mats until he turned 8 months old.  Then a few mats showed up every week, but I could keep up.  Then I got Maggie when Kona was 10 months old and HUNDREDS of mats showed up within 3 days of rough play.  His adult coat is much harder to brush.  I took me about 3 hours per day for 4 days to get all of the mats out before taking him in to get a shorter haircut until his adult coat was all the way in.  Something really did change between that soft fluffy long luscious puppy coat and the adult coat.  I was soooooo hoping he'd be one of the rare ones to keep that super soft easy to comb hair as an adult.  no such luck.  Here are a few photos of Kona when he was 8 and 9 months old before his first haircut:
