Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello everyone. We started a discussion mid-discussion about a trip to San Diego's Ocean Dog Beach.
We are trying to pool dates so everyone who wants to go can attend. Cindy had a great suggestion about emailing everyone who might be interested but since I'm not tech savy and don't know how to find everyones emails easily I'm going with plan B and made it a discussion of it's own?? Ü
Trying to work around the Thanksgiving holiday I suggested November 16th or 23rd? If that doesn't work how about December 7th? That would be the first Saturday of the month after Thanksgiving?
For the most part California is always sunny and the dogs don't seem to care if it's hot or cold, just unhook that leash and give'em a beach to frolick on, at least that's how my girls roll! lol
For those intersested there are lots of overnight options if you want to make it a weekend. There is a little dog friendly motel just as you enter the parking lot of Ocean Dog Beach or if you like camping there are tons of campgrounds in the area. There seems ot be more RV campgrounds in the Mission Bay area but if you like tenting it or even simple cabins there is San Diego KOA which is about 15 minutes away (we always stay here).
There are also tons of dog parks in the area too (we are trying to hit them all). Fiesta Island is a dog friendly island and has a huge dog park at one end. I've discovered seasonal timing is important though. In my photos there are a few of the girls frolicking in daisies. This was our first trip to Fiesta Island dog park but the next time we went the flowers were gone and the foxtails were abundant! Not good. Coronado Island has a dog park or beach (can't remember which) it's on our to do list with the dogs.
If we get a good group and folks are interested maybe we can find a dog friendly place to eat and have lunch or an early dinner together? This would depend on the times we pick?
Please reply to this discussion with your date preference (if you want to do a first choice, second choice?) Here's were I wish I knew how to do that survey monkey stuff! I will keep a tally, if you can have you dates picked by the end of October I will get something posted the first of the month in the event section.
We can talk more Saturday for those attending the Arbor Park romp.
Thanks,
Jolene

Hi Jolene, At this point all three Saturday dates work for me and of course, Camus. Afternoons are best for me. As for restaurants, one that I recommend is Bull's Smokin' BBQ. Link to the menu: http://www.bullssmokinbbq.com/food.php
Nice!
Hi Guys! Since I live a less than a mile from Dog Beach I can most certainly come if we hit the right date. I have some photography classes, a trip to San Jose to babysit and stuff like that. Here are my open dates...Nov 9, 10, 16, 17, Dec 7 in the morning, Dec 14,15. Let me know. I need to let Nancy (Ned and Clancy) know. They come down a lot in their RV and stay at Campland on MIssion Bay. There is also a dog park in Ocean Beach. It is the Dusty Rhodes Dog Park at the intersection Sunset Cliffs Blvd, OB Freeway and Nimitz Blvd. Right across is Robb Field which an athletic park and you can walk to it from Dog Beach...just right up the channel. Very nice walk. I prefer to have Gracie Doodle in the channel and I go further up (East) only because of all the Pit Bulls!!! Early morning is a very nice time to have your dogs out before all the "loosers" come with their studded collared dogs!!! But, up channel is a better place during crowds. Just means there are no waves to jump. You can catch those on the way in or out of the park! I'll wait to see what everyone decides!
GBK, Buddy and Kona come over from Las Vegas a few times a year and stay in the motel at the entrance to the Dog Beach parking lot. She likes it there and there is an area where you can wash your dog (outside). Three blocks up the street (Voltaire St.) is a very nice indoor dog wash with high tubs. They supply the soap, conditioner, scrubber and two towels and the water is warm. This is where we bathe Gracie if we go to the beach. That way we don't have a sandy dog to take home.
Ro...that is the Ocean Beach Dog Beach and it is a few blocks from the Dusty Rhodes Dog Park. We are talking about Point Loma and not Coronado or Del Mar which are the other two dog beaches. Del Mar is seasonal too. OB is always open unless we have huge rains or sewer spills that empty into the channel. Then the Life Guards close the beach for a few days. Rain???? I don't think we are very familiar with that word down here! ha ha
When you arrive in San Diego you are either on Interstate 5, 15 8. If you take the proper exit off of 5 it meets the end of 8 right there at the Dog Park. A few signals and a right turn and down a couple of blocks you are at the Dog Beach. We can get more specific once the dates are made. If you Google Ocean Beach Dog Beach I'm sure a map will come up.
We are free the weekend of Nov 23rd and most weekends in December beginning with Sunday, Dec. 1st. The last two times we stayed at Mission Bay RV resort which is the closest campground we could find to Ocean Beach. It is about 10 minutes away (driving). My preference is the channel over the beach - less crowded and no waves. We have also been to the dog park Nancie mentioned. The two times we were there, dogs and people were friendly.
Noooooooooooooooo, not Nov. 23...I am in San Jose babysitting for the weekend! Scroll up a few comments and look at my dates. See if something works for you guys!
December would be much better for us actually!
Okay it looks by the tally from this discussion and the main forum December 7th is our best bet. Nancie you mentioned morning, is 10am workable for you? With most of us driving from a distance I'm thinking 10am would be doable with maybe a late lunch for those interested?? Personally we can spend hours on the beach! I'll try posting something in the events calendar. We may try to make it a weekend too?
