I've been thinking about buying a microscope... I would love to take high quality images of the microscopic world with my Canon DSLR. Has anyone done this? Someone told me it's much easier (and cheaper) to do with a point and shoot digital camera because you can remove the eyepiece and fit the camera right on it. Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks for the links, F!

No, but that sounds awesome! DH and I want to get an attachment for our telescope to take pictures with our DSLR... I never thought about doing it with a microscope

I have done a lot of this with SLR cameras and some with DSLR.  On our scopes (olympus) the attachment is straight above the slide mount. We have used the DSLR that came with the set up. Now we have a setup that transfers the image directly t the hard drive. I was told the problem is the focal length.  Good luck

Linda,

I thought about you and this discussion today.

My son has a deep corneal laceration and they will be watching this laceration by taking pictures with each visit to see if he has any progress with his treatments ( vs. surgery )

They put the dye in his eye, then use just point and shoot camera held up to the microscope.  The pictures were fantastic!  Great to use to show the patient, a good baseline visual in his chart, and a tool to use for a course of treatments.  Like Linda, it appeared they could transfer the image to the hard drive and straight to his chart.  But I saw NO extra attachments. It was free and just in his  hand.

I don't know if I will be going with him on Monday's visit or I would ask what brand of camera he was using.

From where I was sitting I was certain it was a Nikon Cool Pix  <--simple but very informative and useful

Oh J I am so sorry to hear this. Which son? I am hoping he can heal on his own.

Oldest.  Today the doc seemed to calm him way down so he does finally have some relief.

I think these photos helped explain to him just what was going on.  Great tool.

Godd on the calming and good on the pictures. Thinking of you all.

That's so interesting! I tried doing it with my DLSR but didn't have much luck. It figures that a point and shoot would get better results - haha!

I'm sorry to hear about your son's eye, through. I hope he's ok!
