Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Benji is 11 weeks old, 7 pounds, F1B Goldendoodle he was on Purina Puppy Chow when he got home from the breeder at 7 weeks he had diarrhea, we have been very slowly transitioning him to Acana Heritage Puppy food (from Canada). He had stool tested, came back negative but the vet put him on Flagyl for 10 days, plus Purina Probiotic and Royal Canin Gastrointestinal canned food. His stools came normal from day 2 of treatment... until after the treatment on day 12 he started diarrhea again. Gave him pepto bismol for 3 days and the stool firmed. After that it came back pudding like... (BTW, he's still taking the probiotic everyday till today). Went to the vet again yesterday she prescribed Interceptor Brown Dewormer which I gave him. I know it takes up to over 48 hours before taking effects but I'm worried all this time (since after the Flagyl treatment) it might be the Acana that doesn't work for him. We are first time dog owner and are learning as it goes and are open to any suggestions.

I have a 5 month old mini doodle, which had basically the same problem. We switched her over to Natural Balance potato and duck and within the 2nd bowl, her stools were firm. We have been on it for 3 weeks and everything is normal. I only put in the Purina Probiotic in her morning bowl. What I aslo loved was that they have treats including training soft treats. She is doing good. Good luck with your furbaby.
Maria, Thank you for the reply! I will keep this food in mind for an alternative food I would prefer one that's Canadian since that's where I live :)... I've been thinking maybe the Acana Heritage Puppy isn't right for him but Ill wait and see if the dewormer fixes the problem. I'm trying to be proactive and think ahead for a plan B.
A few days after the dewormer his stools was almost perfect consistency. It varies from one bowel movement to the other in a day, sometimes nicely formed stools and other times pudding-like or diarrhea. He's still on Acana Heritage Puppy food (chicken formula) and Purina pro plan probiotic in the morning, he is fed 3 times a day. He chewed once in a while on a bully stick but last night he chewed a lot on it and today he had diarrhea with mucus and blood. So it really makes me think it might be the bully stick that is causing his loose stool is this possible? I also noticed the last days he doesn't chew his food he swallow whole (very small kibble). OR the breeder told me it could possibly be allergy or intolerance such as chicken. Any suggestions?
