I like to mentally challenge Lola when she is eating her dinner. Sometimes I put her kibble in a plastic water (with the label off). Then set it down for her so she has fun figuring out how to get the kibble out. It is mental stimulation, feeding, and fun all in one package.
We live near a Military National Park that is a wonderful pleace to run, ride bikes. walk, fly kites, hike and picnic. We love to take our dogs there to run off leash on the service roads. The main roads are bike friendly and walker friendly so these are great places to walk on leash and practice obedience and socialization skills. There are lots of deer, birds, squirrels and other dogs that help us practice self control too. At home our dog's favorite toy/treat is their kongs. Anything in them or nothing at all seems ok. Also, I like to teach them tricks such as shake, which hand, high five, say hello ( lay their head in your lap ). All of these taught with the goal of using them in therapy work and fun when out in public.
Because we have so many and lots of room to run and romp, we don't get a lot of organized leash walks in. . . .but, we do enjoy some good ole creek stomping, swimming, and hiking. All of my dogs get one on one play time with me. . .lots of ball retrieving and tug of war. I must say, it isn't hard to mentally challenge Tallulah. . .not the smartest one on the block!!! But, she does enjoy the doggie toys that have other toys inside of them and we work on her commands regularly as she seems to get a lot out of that. I'm in the process of checking out some agility programs. . .anyone do that?

I think there is an agility group that would also be helpful on DK. Agility sounds like a lot of fun.
