How much walking for a puppy

Does anyone know how much we should be walking our puppy?  We've heard that we're not supposed to walk/run puppies too much because their hips aren't developed yet.  We live in Manhattan, so we only have sidewalks to walk him on until he's had all of his shots and we can take him to the park.

I am assuming that your puppy is very young if you are waiting for him to finish his shots.  Young puppies are better off not walking too much while they are growing so much.  Free play is different as they will rest when they have need to.  Try active play at home and concentrate on housetraining for outdoor walks for now.
